What type of ammo should I use for shooting trap?
I have about 80 rounds of 00 Buck laying around. Can I use that?

Also... Do I have to bring to shoot trap at Brookhaven?

thanks in advance

If you use a smaller powder charge it will hurt less as the rounds go on. 3/4 Dram is good #8 shot, they sell it there (yapank) . You will also need eye protection, many use cheap shooting glasses, sold there also. a pouch or big honkin pocket to keep 25 rounds in + 2 extra if you have a dud. Ear protection is a good thing ..what??

Be aware trap shooting is a one shot at a time deal, no matter what gun you have you may only load it with one round. Its a lot of fun and many of they guys will be helpful if your new.
My first trip not so good, the high strung guy next to me with his $25,000 shot gun was frustrated on my first round and grabbed the gun from me and it went off. After that he backed off and kept his mouth shut. I have found it is a sport that does need some teaching and constant practice. But once you get it , its all concentration.

No ..... Do not fire 00 buck in the air.
Not sure what is proper ive used 7 1/2 or 8 shot in the past. I havent trap shot in 20 years. I am sure someone else knows better.
Please forgive me for the novice questions but I have a few more?

Whats the reasoning behind me not being able to use the 00 Buck (9 pellets)?

#1 You may hit someone when it comes down..Travels further than #7 1/2 or #8 shot

#2 You will have holes big enough in the shot pattern that you may not even hit the clay target

#3 Do you really want to shoot 25 rounds of shoulder bruising ammo?

#4 Louder than trap rounds so you will also cause trouble for the range with the town and neighbors

4 very good reasons! Thanks for the clarification.

No one on the line saw it, I was shooting for the first time and was nervous ,I watched a few games , what I did not relize is it was a single shot event, so I was using a Winchester that I never used, I always grab my 870 but the barrel was too short,so I am shooting and this high strung guy next to me sees that I am pumping between rounds, this set him off ,instead of telling the puller, he comes over and confronts me ,I say sorry first time didn't know ,so know I am really in a tizzy because I am holding everyone up. And I am trying to dump my shells, but the button is not there because it's the Winchester.this guy can't take it any more comes over while I am trying to unload and starts pressing buttons to release the shells. I did not ask in any way for help, in doing so he was almost wrestling the gun out of my hand and it went off, I made sure I kept it down range, that idiot could have killed some one. I was to shaken to say anything ,I realized someone could have just been killed, if it were to happen again , and he approached me while in that situation ,I would turn my back walk from the line ,secure my weapon and take the guys $25,000 shot gun and accidentally drop it . Then if he was angry and threw a punch, ...................... I would sue his butt.and buy a round for everyone.

Maybe you should have taken a lesson first so you would have known all of the rules of the range

I am not saying he was not wrong but you were also wrong for not knowing and following the rules and practices of the range
Rules and etiquette are one thing.. but grabbing someones loaded shotgun is WAY out of line. I realize that some people are more serious than others but if that guy is that serious what the hell is he doing at a public range?

#1 Yes the guy was way out of line for grabbing the gun I am not defending him

#2. The op was also wrong for loading more than one shell at a time.

(Ignorance is no excuse). You are dealing with firearms not matchbox cars.. Take a lesson and know the rules.

#3 plenty of trap shoots and leagues take place at public ranges. I know I like
to practice where I am going to shoot an event. Every range is a little different
Try shooting at Thunder Mountain in NJ. It is alot different from shooting here on LI

For nonhandicap trap, I shoot 9's all the time.
for the OP, a single ball of OO buck shot is a .32 caliber projectile of lead leaving the muzzle at 1050 feet per second. Think of it as if someone were shooting nine .32 pistols up in the air simultaneously, every shot. Not safe.

Forgive my ignorance if the answer is evident, but I've never played a round of sporting clays. Trap almost every Sunday though. I heard through the grapevine that while playing sporting clays, only target loads are allowed?

What is the difference between 2 3/4 12 ga 7 1/2 shot 3 dram loads labeled "game loads" and "target loads?"

Target loads have harder shot

And it may have a different wad.. Years ago winchester had a game load with a two piece wad.. They were cheap but not bad if you wanted to save some money..
