I bought a supply (@2000) of Imbejiheads 124gr CN 9mm heads about two years ago. I loaded a bunch in 2014 but then got sidetracked and haven't reloaded since. I only used a few of the rounds that I had loaded. This month I decided it was time to get back to the bench

Long story short, I found that the rounds I made previously are not functioning in my Kimber 1911 or Walther PPQ. Both 4.25" barrels. Some (the longest) aren't going into battery and many stick so tight they can't be manually ejected normally. At a match last year I had to fire them out once or twice. To rack the slide took a lot of force and sometimes they round had to be tapped out with a dowel. These were not squibbs, but trying to unload and make clear.

I sorted them by COL into .001 lots. (Yes, I had time. Bad weather and a sick day.) Then I shot them over my chrono.

These were loaded with 4.0 grains of Win 231 to a COL of 1.135 (the minimum listed is 1.050). this is the data I had for a similar sized Speer jacketed RN. My velocities are a bit higher, average in 1020 vs 890 in the manual. Does the higher velocity indicate a pressure problem? It is about 80 FPS slower that white box factory loads. I don't see any signs of pressure problems with the cases but I don't know if there is a correlation between MV and pressure.

I noticed that the rounds that need to be forced out when I try to rack the slide have some scratching to the coating. The longer the COL the more prominent the scratching. This is happening in several firearms, even with a COL of 1.120 there is some scuffing. At around 1.140+ some of the rounds won't go into battery.

I am pretty sure that the COL combined with the shape of the round is the problem. The CNs look more like the tip of a new crayon and the cylindrical portion is

I am not sure if I should just switch to a RN or load these to about 1.120 or 1.100. That would still be above the minimum Speer lists at 1.050" for 124 gr Jacketed RN.

The real question is finding the right COL that lets them cycle properly and safely unload when I need too, without going so short that I get pressure problems.

I have about 1600 rounds left and would rather not waste them And yes, I know you'll take them off my hands and no, I shouldn't have bought a Glock.

Sorry, the photos don't really show the damage to the ejected bullet well but these are also the shortest of mock up rounds I made. The longer cases have more prominent damage but I don't have photos handy.

They clear the case gauge easily but they do show a hair long int eh barrel when I take it out of the gun and use it as a gauge.

So I'm going to make a batch at about 1.100 or 1.110 then chrono to see how the FPS changes.

Thanks guys.

Yes, I crimp with a Dillon die. Some do have the slightest little (.001) hourglass to them. I don't think that's a problem though. Is it? I've read that that happens on Dillon presses and isn't a cause for concern.
