Got my Horton Ultra Lite inbound, and think I might drag the wife out. I have nothing other than the crossbow combo kit, expect to need a lot of extras, but want to observe some folks that know what they are doing and what they bought.

Isn't practicing with any kind of bow in your yard legal (provided you're being safe), since it's not a "firearm"?

No, 500 feet = 166.66 yards from the nearest building or roadway.
(I believe that most people don't realize that the regs are the same for bow as they are for gun.)

Meanwhile: http://www.crossbownation.com/forum...arget-range-practice-not-allowed-in-new-york/

can you wait a few years ? Why not pick up a cheap recurve like I did ?

Last time I looked at the sign at the entrance, crossbows were still prohibited at Cedar Creek.   Hell, the Vatican prohibited their use in the middle ages, an elitist action as they allowed any commoner with little skill to still hit a vaunted knight.  I think until a lot more of us who are still young enough to hunt and yet too disabled or aged to indulge in the true sport of archery, it could stay that way.
