Alleged police impersonator busted pulling over actual cop

By Matthew Stabley, NBCWashington.com

When impersonating a police officer, beware of pulling over an actual police officer.
The failure to follow that guidance has led to the capture of one alleged phony cop in Prince George's County.

Anthony Kenneth Mastrogiovanni was driving his white pickup truck on southbound Route 301 in Upper Marlboro, Md., earlier this week when he attempted to perform a traffic stop on a Capitol Heights police officer who was driving a personal vehicle.

Mastrogiovanni told the officer he was a military police officer from Louisiana and advised the officer that he was speeding, police said. The officer in turn told Mastrogiovanni he was out of his jurisdiction and having blue and red emergency equipment in his truck was against the law in Maryland, police said.

The suspect left the area, and the officer called Prince George's County police and followed the suspect until other officers arrived.
Mastrogiovanni, 29, was charged with impersonating a police officer and was released on personal recognizance.

It's amazing the number of people that have this need to go around impersonating LE. There's that idiot the other day that actually brought somebody to his house and then him go. I imagine there's some sort of psyc diagnosis for this kind of stuff.

Alleged ICE Agent Impersonator Arrested on Long Island
David Bradley, 39, was arrested when he went to police himself to file a complaint, authorities said
Tuesday, Jun 12, 2012 | Updated 10:45 PM EDT

Long Island man who got into a road rage incident with another driver on the road pulled him over by pretending to be a law enforcement agent, then was arrested himself when he tried to file a complaint about the other driver to police, authorities said.

Police said David Bradley, 39, and a 19-year-old man became involved in a road rage incident at the intersection of Woodhull Avenue and Route 347 at about noon Sunday in Port Jefferson Station. Bradley pulled his vehicle behind the teen's and activated emergency lights.

Wearing a bulletproof vest, a badge and what appeared to be a gun in a holster, Bradley identified himself to the other driver as a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent and handcuffed him, according to authorities.

Bradley drove the victim to his home and brought him inside, police said. He took off the handcuffs after about five minutes, brought him back to his vehicle and allowed him to leave.

After the victim notified police on Monday, Bradley went to the police precinct himself to file a complaint. He was arrested after a police investigation.

Police said Bradley also impersonated an ICE agent on May 4, when he tried to gain access to a crime scene.

Bradley was charged with second-degree unlawful imprisonment and second-degree criminal impersonation in the June 10 road rage incident, and with second-degree criminal impersonation in the May 4 incident.

Bradley was being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court.

Anyone who may have had similar contact with Bradley is asked to call Sixth Precinct Crime Section at 631-854-8626.
