Excuse me if there’s another thread on this but I’m not on this forum often.

I get we all need to sit tight and see what happens with the licensing laws / carry classification but in the meantime this class thing is never going to go away.

I find it completely unacceptable that of the two places I found offering this 18 hr class on LI, they are charging $800 and what it has to be retaken every three years?

I don’t care what kind of instructor you are they should be doing everything to facilitate this process not impeded.

why are the classes in western New York and upstate ranging from $110-$340?

that being said does anybody know where else we could take the class?

please excuse the rant my PTSD is very agitated because of this.

thx
Steve

The reason more people than ever have carry permits in NY is because pre Bruen you could not get one in several jurisdictions (Nassau-Westchester-Suffolk-NYC…….)

Although the CCIA was poorly written because it was drafted overnight it does not specifically address your question. However, it is my understanding that the 18 hour class is a one time item.

That’s a challenging question and it depends on the jurisdiction you are in. I am sure that folks like Peconic Paladin will weigh in on my response….. here is my attempt……

New York has two types of licenses carry and premises so when Nassau County tells you that you can carry concealed between home and the range but that your license is not a carry……. It must be a carry with admin restrictions. I know it is not a good answer but it is the best I can come up with. What Nassau and Suffolk are trying to do is further restrict folks with a Sportsman but how can you tell someone that he can conceal to and from the range with a premises permit……

Even if able to carry under LEOSA you would not be able to purchase a handgun in NY without a permit.

By the way- you will not fail the written test (the material is covered during the class) or the marksmanship portion.
