fore!

seriously though, that was messed up.
underground bunker raid in iraq ?
I may have missed it but why were they entering in the first place?
Slightly messed up... just a bit... I mean, really?
What happened for the swat team to be called in? What happened that the patrol cops didnt enter and arrest him,  Not enough info. Maybe he beat someone to death with that golf club. A lot more to this story.
I am troubled by the increased use of "Dynamic Entry Teams" for anything with more danger potential than Aunt Myrna's Bridge Club. The Paramilitary training and heightened sense of danger that many of these units carry in with them cause many of the effects they then have to legitimize. There are bona fide bad guys in situations that require that type of thing, and you don't always know what is behind door #1, but it just seems to me that whenever anything seems remotely dangerous, they call for the cavalry
That video was.. disturbing. I understand that police have a legitimate right to use deadly force, but that situation was very iffy. An unknown number of men just burst through the door, screaming something that fear and adrenaline would certainly have made a messy blur of words. Guy grabs a golf club, dashes out to the hallway... After watching the video several times it did seem like he paused in confusion as he was hit by the lights.. then double tap dead. It was a bad situation, made worst by lack of intel by the boys in blue. You hear a crash in your door and a lot of shouting and screaming... what would you do? (assuming your not armed of course..) I don't very much mind the gradual militarization of our police response units (sometimes I even think in todays world its warranted).. but lack of intel and observation is often what kills people, but necessarily the assault rifles and men in black.
I do not think the Golf Club was an imminent threat, at that distance. Verbal commands and challenges could have been used, until such time as the suspect advanced on the team. MHO.
Can any of our military or police answer this question:

From what I can see that response team is coming into the house and clearing all of the rooms. Do they time to stop when they encounter the man with the golf club? or are they supposed to deal with that threat as quickly as possible and move onto the other room?

I realize the video only shows a small portion of the entire story but I want to gain a better understanding of the small piece I did see.
justified in my book. Crazy meth head comes out with a long object which on tape is a golf club but as it evolved could have looked like rifle.
NON lethal Up !
They could have just beat the crap out of him and gave him a Mulligan.

You've convicted him without evidence or trial... ALLEGED 'meth head'

also of note: he was down after the FIRST shot... Now I understand that the second shot was coming, which hit him while on his knees... But the THIRD shot? as he was falling backwards? I dunno, it wasn't like the cop was ripping them out IPSC speed... He had time to think in between.
From the Salt Lake Tribune site in the link...

"Investigation reports obtained by The Tribune depict an operation that took some unexpected turns away from protocol before that one explosive moment."

"Grounds for search » Whether Todd Blair was a meth dealer or just a well-connected addict is a matter of dispute. Investigators from Weber and Morgan counties began watching Blair in 2009 after hearing that he was letting drug dealers live at his home in exchange for their products, according to the search warrant request. There were previous reports of meth traffic to and from the home, near 5900 South and 2600 West in Roy"

"Investigators, however, didn't report seeing Blair make a transaction."

Hhmmmmm..........

they will proclaim another victory for the war on drugs. even tho all they appear to have found was residue.
maybe he shoots with his eyes closed ?
Team seemed more interested in admiring their handiwork than clearing the structure.

Anyone hear the call Medic Up ?

Yeah, only you don't hold a rifle like a baseball bat..

*Pow pow pow*

*Get on the ground*

Seems like the wrong order.

Well for the most part if SWAT is kicking down your door in the middle of the night its not because they are selling girl scout cookies. 3 shots were excessive but in the heat of the moment the police got spooked by this guy and lit his ass up. Still justified for me.
