Girl Hides In Closet, Texts 'OMG! Burglars Breaking In'
Johns Creek Teen Hides In Closet, Texts Mom About Intruders
By Tony McNary, CBS Atlanta Reporter

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- Imagine being at work and you get a text from your daughter, who's home alone. She's scared because someone has broken into the house.

"I was hiding in the closet. They just came and opened the door. The guy, he saw me, we both screamed. He asked me, 'Where's the money?'" said the 13-year old. Her mom asked that we not reveal their identity.

The teen was home Monday morning when she said three masked men broke into their home in the Wingate subdivision in Johns Creek.

"They were ringing on the door, banging on the door, my dog was barking, and then I just ran to the bathroom cause I got so scared," said the teen.

Pieces of shattered glass are still on their kitchen floor where the burglars kicked in the back door.

While this was going on downstairs, the child was upstairs texting her mom Her mom said she sent a text that stated, "OMG someone is in the house."

"I immediately called her back, she picked up she was whispering," said her mom.

The child's mom immediately called her next-door neighbor Jan.

"I didn't even think Tony, I just grabbed my phone, ran outside and ran down there," said Jan. She asked us not to use her last name.

Jan got to her neighbor's house just in time.

"I knocked on the door real hard and looked in their side panel windows. I saw two bodies running down, that I knew did not belong there," said Jan.

Jan jumped into action and called 911. She says the police responded with five minutes. They surrounded the house, the burglars were gone, but the child was still inside crying.

"I was like oh my God -- oh, it was terrible," said the teenager's mom.

Police have not caught the suspects.

Um

a) she should have called 911 "and like OMG-there are people in the house"
b) she should have had a gun in that closet.
c) The nieghbor should have responded-with a gun.
d) When the Mom & Dad come home, first trip should be to the Gun Shop, Second to the range and join the NRA/gun club to take classes and practice.

Glad she is OK.
Court case after court case have borne out that cops have NO responsibility to prevent crime, which i agree with of course. Cops exist to deter crime, and then they respond, write reports and solve them.
The best case scenario, of a cop there as a crime ocurs, is not one id depend on.

Also, 5 minutes is actually GOOD comparatively.

Your personal safety is your own personal resposibility.

Our cops are not superheroes who can be there as you hang up. Heros? Yes. Superheros? No.
As I was Reading that, I was thinking the Neighbor was gonna come over with a Gun, but I was Wrong.

...I hope they Catch them.

My thoughts exactly... I mean was there a point where she thought "should I call the police?... Nah I'll just text my mom."

I guess most 13 year olds might not be inclined to go get a gun (but they should!), but seriously, I remember learning how to call the police in preschool.

Nothing but good luck with the way it turned out, could have been a lot worse.
I agree chapper. The title I chose was intended with sarcasm ;)
I believe in the old saying:

"when seconds count, the Police are just minutes away."
