From the University's Bias guidelines:

"RACE, ETHNICITY, CULTURE AND IMMIGRANT STATUS

Preferred: U.S. citizen or Resident of the U.S.
Problematic: American
Note: North Americans often use "American" which usually, depending on the context, fails to recognize South America
Preferred: North American or South American
( Actually Canadians, which are people from the nation of Canada that live in part of North America don't use the term "American" in describing themselves I'm pretty sure of that.)
Problematic: American: assumes the U.S. is the only country inside these two continents."

UNH president 'troubled' over bias-free language guide

But I noticed it's still up on their website.
And as is usual with liberals no one knows who's in charge of it.

University of New Hampshire President Mark Huddleston attempted Wednesday to distance himself and the school from a "bias-free language" guide that claims the term "American" is problematic.
"I am troubled by many things in the language guide, especially the suggestion that the use of the term 'American' is misplaced or offensive," Huddleston said in a statement posted on the school's website.

The New Hampshire Union Leader reported two blogs that follow university issues wrote about the guidelines, which also cautioned against the use of "healthy," "rich" and "older people" in addition to the term "American."

The guide states people should refrain from using the world "American" because the word, "depending on context, fails to recognize South America." The guide says it is preferred to say North American or South American because using American "assumes the U.S. is the only country inside these two continents."
University spokeswoman Erika Mantz told the Union Leader the guidelines were written in 2013 by "a small group of community members" and faculty aren't forced to follow the rules laid out in the guidelines.
The Associated Press reports the guide was submitted by the President's Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities last year and is described as a "4-commission effort."

Mantz said it's not clear to whom the commissions are supposed to report. Those reporting lines are under review, she said.
[Ah yes, for liberals the buck never stops. Unless it stops with G W Bush of course.]

New Hampshire Senate majority leader Jeb Bradley said in a statement the school "should concentrate on educating students to compete in the 21[sup]st[/sup] century economy rather than taking political correctness to farcical levels."

The Union Leader reports the Women's Commission inspired the conversation about language accuracy in its "Guide to Non-Sexist Language," according to the UNH website.
Mantz said it is unknown who was consulted about the guide because it's not official school policy.

There are two Americas?

I've come to the conclusion that being called wrong and attacked by 'academia' at our higher learning institutions should be worn as a badge of honor and shows ones intelligence.

Funny thing about language. Language is defined by the people who speak it and write it. Not by universities and not by the government. There are no gate-keepers and there's no such thing as the King's English. Dictionary publishers must follow the people, not lead. If they ignore the populace, they're useless as a reference resource.

The evolution of language is the most democratic process in human civilization.

Thinking about this more the stupidity and the obvious racism of those that wrote these guidelines would be hysterical if this wasn't how liberals really think.

"American" doesn't recognize South America.
Okay. Let's say that it somehow discrimibnates by not recognizing the Continent of South America .
Again, What about Canada?
It doesn't recognize Canada either.
To these liberal socialist douchebags Canada doesn't exist. Why?
Because it has mainly "white" people in it?
Only non white lives matter?

OK... FIrst off,

CANADA is in NORTH America - They are called CANADIANS eh.

The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - is in North America - We are called AMERICANS.

Mexico (which I though was considered CENTRAL America, but we'll call North America to make the point) They are called MEXICANS

Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, Peru, etc. etc. are in SOUTH America - they are called Colombians, Venezuelans, Brazilians, Ecuadorians, Chileans, Peruvians, etc.ians, etc.ians.... NOT "SOUTH AMERICANS" unless they are being referred to in a continental/cultural context. ("South Americans eat a lot of Rice & Beans" for instance)

And where exactly does say... Panama fall in the colleges grand scheme of things???

We just need an executive order changing the name of our country to the United States of North America.

Oh hell, just make the Democratic People's Republic of the United States of North America. DPRUSNA has such a progressive ring to it, don't you think?

I'm confused. Were all the current atlases, maps, globes removed from this campus that nobody could look at them and see that there are other countries on there continents? Was Google maps not working that day?
