Valpo sixth-grader handcuffed over spilled milk

VALPARAISO - A 12-year-old faces two counts of resisting law enforcement for his alleged actions when he refused to clean up spilled milk in the Ben Franklin Middle School cafeteria.

A police officer was helping supervise the lunch period on Tuesday, because both the principal and assistant principal were in a meeting, and the boy got into a confrontation with a school staff member.

After refusing to wipe up the mess, according to the police report, the sixth-grader refused to sit and wait for the other students to return to class so the staff member could deal with him individually.

He then allegedly ran away - through hallways and the kitchen - when the police officer attempted to escort him to the principal's office.

Once caught, he fought and kicked the officer in attempts to get away and eventually was put in handcuffs.

The student was released to a parent.

In the school's defense there are some bad @ss 12 year olds out there, i.e. that kid in SI that harassed that Muslim girl.
Should have tasered the little effer!

But Nordon is right. My 13 year old is almost 6 feet tall, and can give me a run for my money wrestling. A kid that big with a bad attitude can be a lot of trouble.
Why should anyone blame the school?
Child misbehaves, gets told to clean up the mess he made and then throws a tantrum.
If there's blame to be placed its on Mom & Dad, not the school.

Here is another agent provocateur for ya BIG OX.
What we are dealing with here....is a total lack of respect for the law.

Where the heck is Valparaiso, Russia? Kid spills milk and the POPO kicks his butt.  Just a kid running from a beat down, Maybe if they talked to him and showed a little more compassion and caring he would grow up a better person. Now im sure his attitude is F the police and everyone else, all over a litle spilled milk. WTF
don't cuff him, CANE him!!!!  like my dear old mother used to say, "somebody needs a good beat'n"
I don't think a 12 year old really understands the possible repercussions from running from a police officer.

As to why there was a police officer stationed in the cafeteria...I guess that's all speculation on our part as it wasn't mentioned in the article.

Yup. I really appreciate it too. Its why I'm pretty much done with this place.
Is Valparaiso anywhere near East New York??????

Choke hold is SOP in a milk spill scenario, they learn that at the academy........

Sorry. :(

Didn't mean to offend.
"Once caught, he fought and kicked the officer in attempts to get away"

I don't care if he is 12, he ran away and kicked and officer. It seems mommy and daddy never taught to respect and authority. He's the kid that probably gets what ever he wants because mommy and daddy don't want to disappoint him.
This is another case of misleading headlines.

After reading the headline I thought: Another story of cops over-stepping their bounds.

After reading the article I thought: That idiot kid deserved it.
Yea, I love to rant about rights abuses as much as the next guy, but this kid is lucky not have caught a face full of pepper spray.

Sounds like this kid will be dealing with police again if his parents don't take the wake up call seriously.

By the way, MRobs, just read your sig line, well done sir. Fictional character Ron Swanson = Akuna's real life hero.
