Was looking to invest in a home defense shotgun. I've used handguns and rifles before, but never in NYS. I realize its expense/ long process to get a pistol license in Nassau. Figured a shotgun is easier, correct?

I was on budsgunshop.com and saw this disclaimer for gun laws:

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/feeds/state_reg/new_york_restrictions.pdf

I was looking at the Mossberg 500SP #50411 model. However, it says they cannot ship ANYTHING to nassau county, why?? However, my local gunstore has the same model (LI OUTDOORSMAN). of course its $75 more plus sales tax. Plus the people in there are horrible.

is it possible to ship it to my fathers house in albany? he would have to purchase it and i reimburse as the law says the billing address cannot be in those counties. i don't want to do anything illegal, so is that possible? basically he would be buying it and then i would be buying it from him.

Thank you!

Nope, you can't get firearms, even long guns, shipped direct to you in NY. I didn't think you could have a new firearm purchase shipped from a dealer to a private person anywhere. It's gotta ship to an FFL, and they'll do the NICS background check before they turn it over to you. It can ship to an FFL near Albany, but YOU have to do the NICS paperwork. For him to do it, intending to transfer it to you is a no-no. Some shops will receive a firearm and do the NICS check/paperwork for $25 or less. I have mine shipped to PJ Army Navy. I am sure folks in Nassau can recommend FFLs in Nassau at a comparable price point. Your LGS has overhead, and they've already paid to have it shipped and the purchase will include the FFL/NICS paperwork. Sales tax is out of their control. It's important to patronize your LGS, or they won't exist. I have no idea why Bud's won't sell to Nassau residents.

I'm pretty sure Buds will ship to a local FFL. They will not ship a firearm to your door. As was stated, you have to do a background check. LI Outdoorsman is not the best place. I usually deal with South Shore Sportsman in Merrick. They are also a sponsor of this site. Go talk to Stan or Anthony.

Welcome to LIF!

Bud's will not do business with a Nassau address...period, so forget them.
What I recommend is you going to a local gunshop (like Coliseum) and decide which gun, including the Mossberg, feels best to you.

Thanks everyone. Let me clarify a bit. I meant for the gun to ship to my FFL, either LI Outsdoorsman or SS in Merrick (never been but i think i'll like anyone better than the attitude i received in LI Outdoorsman).

So is only Buds not able or no one is able to ship to a Nassau FFL?

I will take a trip to SS in merrick and Colisseum hopefully this weekend. But in general, the prices online were all less (without considering sales tax savings) than local stores.

Also, that was cheaper but they show it out of stock more than 30 days. Any other online retailers you guys recommend?

THANKS!

For him to do it, intending to transfer it to you is a no-no That used to be okay as long as long as you weren't a restricted person ( although some dealers wouldn't allow it to be on the safe side.) but now with the SAFE Act it's a no no in all of New Yorkastahn. All sales and transfers have to go through FFLs I believe with some minor exceptions.

Because some places that are located in free states don't want to deal with the hassels of the socialist libtarded areas like
NYC & Nassau. They made that decesion and some people blame them for it while others blame the tyrants here. ( I'm in the latter camp)
They made that decision and some people blame them for it while others blame the tyrants here. ( I'm in the latter camp)
The Gun Control Act of 1968 stopped the interstate shipping of firearms to an individual. That's federal law.
It was one of the asinine things pushed through because Lee Harvey Oswald bought the rifle from a catalog.
Thank goodness they did that. there hasn't been a murder with a gun since then ( that was sarcasm)

Scroll down on the slickguns.com page and you will see multiple online retailers offering that shotgun.

if you end up buying it online, consider using Volko (a forum sponsor) for your FFL. They are great guys and I believe they charge $25 to transfer long guns.

Most are free shipping at that price point.

why do you suggest the persuader over the one i suggested? I've been researching for a few weeks but still know very little. I want short (18.5" - best for home defense) and the 50411 had both stock and pistol grip kit. And i wanted standard, no frills.

If my choice is wrong, please let me know

Thanks

Don't forget to add about $40.00 to the price of the online gun for shipping (unless free) and for the ffl fees ($20 or more)
Most of the online sellers charge $20 or less for shipping. Many offer free shipping. Plus you save the nearly 9% in sales tax.

I support LGSs and have bought more than half my guns locally, but online stores can often save you 20% or more.

Personally, if I knew the model I wanted, for a pump action HD shotgun, I would probably go mainly on price. (though I did buy mine at an LGS) For a sporting shotgun where fit and feel are much more critical, I would use an LGS
