Shooting outside of a Carls Jr. [video]

I'm pretty ok with the shooting. 10 shots seems a bit much, I dont think he was gonna do too much after the first 5, but eh, I'm not the guy getting a pipe swung at me... People may say [although likely not here :)] that they should have put the dog on him quicker, but I don't think that should come into play. What if there wasn't a dog at all? The guy was still a nut -- he just laughed off the tazer in the face/neck. Freekin tazer in the neck!

Try to block out the moronic commentary of the ghetto videographers.

The thing that bothers me is how the police originally reported it (w/o knowing they had been recorded).. It's a bit deceitful. The original story says: "Police said the Taser was ineffective, and the suspect swung the three-foot metal bar at officers twice. At least one officer opened fire on the suspect."

Why is the first reaction to lie?

There is already at least one thread for this incident; maybe I didn't read it thoroughly but I was not aware of this report. I was pretty much fine with the shooting- first 5 shots were absolutely justified IMO; second 5 may have been unnecessary and a poor decision but I would not punish the officer for it. The officers did make a number of mistakes that lead to the shooting being necessary.

The lie, however, bothers me more. Based on the video, I thought it was a good shoot given the circumstances. But if the officers who were there felt the need to lie about it, then that raises doubt for me and now I can't help but feel less comfortable about the whole thing.
Good shoot

you guys wouldn't understand, if time comes to use deadly force you want to incapacitate the threat no matter what. Thats why so many shots are taken. I have a couple of buddies that are LEO and they have been in similar shootouts and said they have shot a guy 5 plus times and the perp was still attacking them and not incapacitated. We couldn't see in this video what happen while he was on the ground because the car was blocking our view. Ill give the cop the benefit of the doubt that the first officer who shot did not fully neutralize the threat, therefore officer 2 engaged him. Could it have been avoided yes, but noone can criticize until your in there shoes people love to say they shoot too many bullets until your in there shoes i guarantee most would take the shot.

now that i look back after the first 5 shots he did not go down until officer 2 shot then the perp was neutralized and no longer a threat.

^ This.

Whatever allows the person defending themselves to go home to their wife and kids at night is justified by me.

Not to mention you don't know if he has kevlar on, or what, you can never be too careful.
i didnt mean to be offensive with that statement sorry if i came off rude.. was not intended I meant alot of people criticize LEO for using to much force or fire too many rounds. I feel the same way you do, no matter what they do people always give them the bad end of the deal
