A customer at the Waffle House on Chesnee Highway shot and killed a gunman attempting to rob the business early Saturday morning, according to a report from the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery attempt at the Waffle House restaurant at 2230 Chesnee Highway at 1:13 Saturday morning. They discovered that two men had attempted to rob the business.

Deputies said a customer at the restaurant who was a concealed weapons permit holder attempted to thwart the robbery and hold the suspects at gunpoint with his handgun until authorities arrived. However, one man pointed his gun at the customer, who then shot and killed the suspect, deputies said. The other suspect fled the scene.

The report says no customers or employees were injured during this incident, but it was not known if the second suspect had been hit.

Dante Lamont Williams, 19, of 827 South Edisto River Drive, Roebuck, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Spartanburg County Coroner Charles Clevenger. Williams had been shot in the head and chest.

Anyone who may have information regarding the identity and/or location of the second suspect is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1.888.CRIME.SC.

There are some funny posts on some other sites.....

"Night, night Dante."

"I have to think the odds are pretty good running to a CCW at the Waffle House. Sort of like running into a lady at the shoe store."

LOL!

If this trend continues, cops and prison guards will soon be out of a job.

Naah. Never going to happen. :)

I am not saying that the CCW should have done anything different . . . . and based upon the article (if accurate) it appears he conducted himself properly (though I don't know the law in SC).  However, I cannot help feel some amount of sadness that a 19 year old kid is dead (even though he apparently desperately deserved it).
If this was in NY the CCW would probably get hit with a wrongfull death law suit, Like Clint Eastwood says in the Unforgivin, Deserve aint got nothin to do with it:

Agreed that is regrettable that a 19 year old won't make it to 20.

Until we bring accountability back into our society and start with the political leadership, this is just going to continue. Political correctness has a price that is unfortunately borne largely by the same demographic groups over and over.
There is no substitute for hard honest work and you can only take from Peter until he figures out how to change his loci.
Happy birthday Dante...enjoy your gift: ALL expense paid vacation to Hell.
