SCPD Pistol License Timeline

Hey guys, since we don't have one yet I figured I'd start a 2020 timeline for the pistol license. Dropped off my application in April waiting patiently for the call for an interview. Anyone else apply this year so far?

All (or most) forms are available on the SCPD website here:
I believe what you are after is the Character Reference Affidavit .
Yes on the SCPLB website go to forms.

There should be some reasonable limits on the fees they are allowed to charge for applications. Suffolk is so much more reasonable than Nassau. So much so, you would think they were in different parts of the country.
What they should do is pass a law that they cash the check a week before you get the permit !
Do that, and you will see those applications suddenly speed up.

There is a law. It's called Section 400 of the NYS Penal Law. Licenses for handguns in NYS are $10.

Nassau and NYC specifically went to the legislature and asked for that law to be changed to specifically allow them to charge a specific amount more.
Idk if I’m just a lucky SOB or what but I had my interview 4/12/23 and I got my sportsman license today 5/15/23. Only a month from interview to issuance.

I'm not surprised. The Lt at the presentation I attended including some reference to it being much faster than before between interview and issuance. However, because I didn't hear it clearly, and because it was without context, I didn't record it in my notes fully and didn't include it in my "News From the Front" post the other day.,
Sad part is now that we’ve decided on the move in a couple months the license is useless and I can’t do anything with it anyway. I’ll have to surrender it upon moving.

Personally I wouldn't bother telling anyone about moving. I would keep it until it come up for renewal.I would use it for visiting. If decided to renew, a person would just make sure to have a PO Box or some other way to get mail forwarded. A person would have to come in person to renew, FYI.
Once you purchase your firearm and bring the receipt to SCPD, how long is the turnaround for your license to be updated so you can pickup the firearm from the gun shop?

They update it right then and there give you it back and then go get your gun

That’s awesome and good to know. You just show up at the Yaphank office? Same place as interview? No “appointment” necessary?

Anyone know if they are open tomorrow given the holiday weekend? I reached out but got no response from them. Planning picking up a pistol and doing the yaphank shuffle tomorrow.
Finally, the day is here. I picked up my Sig the other day. My final timeline below:

Submitted SCPD Questionnaire: 01/07/2021
Interview: 01/25/2023
Permit in hand: 5/1/2023

Almost 2 1/2 years… now time to update my license and amend for a semi automatic and concealed carry. I did the 16+2 course before I received my license and SCPD denied me from getting it, bc I “wasn’t supposed to be able to take a course and handle a firearm prior to having a license” which based off what I read is BS.

Anyways - has anyone done the amendment process for a CC or semi automatic? How long do each of them take and how do you do each?

Congratulations.
Be smart. Stay safe.
I've already ranted in another thread so I'll just say congratulations.
