SCPD Pistol License Timeline

Hey guys, since we don't have one yet I figured I'd start a 2020 timeline for the pistol license. Dropped off my application in April waiting patiently for the call for an interview. Anyone else apply this year so far?

Welp, looks like I jumped the gun posting yesterday (lol get it). Just received my sportsman permit today in mail (approx. 2 week since I submitted references). I shot over to a LGS and made my first purchase (at this point researched the shit out of first choice, they had it on stock so I jumped on it). I could have exercised patience but fuck it. Gonna pick it up tomorrow after I register it with PLB. Went with a Berretta 92x compact for a duty gun. Our being stuck with 10 rounds was a factor. Was going to pick up a used .38 S&W special as well but nothing in stock, maybe down the road.

Anyway guess my last post in this thread, unless anyone wants to pick my brain any. Not trying to give false hope but it really does seem like the process is getting streamlined and quicker. Maybe they feel they want to reduce the heat applicants are (justifiably) placing on them. Looking forward to posting in this forum and finally being in the hand gun club.

Really? Seemed like you've been posting here for awhile, figured you would have card in hand by now. Good luck!
Nope…. Will be a year in March since I submitted my application.

I submitted my application in September 2021
Got the call for interview in December 2022 but had to reschedule the interview for January 19th
Submitted my references February 1st
Hopefully I will be receiving my license in the mail soon. Crossing my fingers !

I am of course discouraging people to take training until the court case in the northern district is full concluded, the election happens, and people are having to renew.

However, I can say with confidence that any place that does firearms training by and large can do it. Also any NRA certified instructor could do it.
100% agree. Don't spend the time and money, if you don't have to do it. The courts may make the whole education/proficiency requirements invalid, if they follow Katzenbach v. Morgan (384 U.S. 641 [1966]), as well as the Bruen decision. We'll have a better feel, in a few weeks. The 5 big suits are going to be heard, starting on 3/20, with decisions expected within a month of the end of those trials.
Gary.

Interesting as they just told me last week that most investigators are now a processing applicant from April/May of 2021. Sounds like no one has a clue who’s doing what over there. If you applied Sep 2021 and already got a call.

When I went to hand in my references in early February, the officer told me 4-6 months to get the license. I also had a minor offense on my record (nothing serious) so they are probably looking more into that.
Finally got the call for interview exactly one year from application submission.

For the payment due during the interview for the fingerprints and background check that has to be a money order correct?

yes
There should be no fee to exercise a Constitutional right. Cost should come out of general funds.

They'll take a check or money order, no cash.

Thought it was also worth mentioning even though I don’t have one yet the letter I received in the mail from my investigator said regarding license # C-XXXXXXX. So even though I applied for Sportsman and after all this BS it’ll be carry with restrictions and not a dwelling post CCIA.

Had my “interview” today can’t believe how fast was in and out in 10-15min. Handed all paperwork in at once. Just have to get my 4 refs to sign the application now. My investigator said she is ahead of schedule so if I can get that back to her ASAP she can get it going.

I put my paperwork in End of December 2022/January 2023. How long would i have to wait before a call/email/letter in the mail?

wouldn’t expect to hear anything until at least one year. I submitted 03/05/22 and got my call 03/10/23 and interviewed 4/12/23. Just a waiting game now.

I’ve heard the process (clock) really begins after the call/interview has been made. From what I also heard it could take up to 6 months before getting approved or denied.

Correct. Have all your references fill out their forms ahead of time so you can hand them in at your interview. They will then give you the real application to have your four references sign and once you hand that in the clock really starts. And yes, expect to wait the full six months.

Is there anyway I can get the reference forms for them to fill out?
