Ugh that means I have at least 20-23 months to go.
While I still feel the effort is worthwhile, unless something dramatic happens with the NYSRPA case, you will have waited 24 months to have the privilege of carrying a firearm to and from.the range.

Yep, quite pathetic even after you prove your “worthy” in this county. You’re still restricted to no end on what you can and cannot do. If I ever move it’s to a gun friendly state if there’s any left by then.

The fact that you can get non residents CCWSs in CT-PA-FL…….. PROVES your point.
I'm in Florida now. It's absurd that I can walk out the door every day carrying without a second thought in a state where I don't pay income tax but in NY I have to pay income tax for the privilege of being treated like a second class citizen. Total insane.

Had my interview today. Documents, fingerprints, etc.. Need to get character references signed, notarized, and returned. Was told that it could be another 4 to 6 months before license is sent out. They are working hard to get to everyone in Yaphank. They are dealing with a huge backlog of applicants.

Questionnaire submitted = Dec. 2020
First Call = February 2022
Interview = February 2022
License = TBD
Hi 300,

My wife is exactly 1 month behind your entire timeline. She finished her interview and submittals during the 2nd week of March 2022, but 3 months later hasn't heard anything yet.

Any news on yours yet?

If not, I did meet a guy who's timeline is a little earlier than yours. He completed his interview and submittals in December 2021, and got his permit 3 months later. The good news is that's a little bit sooner than what they told you.

I'm sure everyone here is already aware of this but SCPD only has 6 months to issue or deny a permit by law (NYS penal code 400) the only way we can do anything to make them adhere to the law however is to collect a mass of names of applicants and bring charges them up on charges for a civil rights violation that being said it will take a lot of names and a fee for an attorney it is doable

Nassau County PD was being sued for the long delay. The lawsuit was dropped when the petitioner received his pistol license.
It takes some money and a good attorney to get things moving.

Hi Hunter1

Still no pistol license. Next week will be 4 months since my in person interview, prints, etc... I was told that it could take 4 to 6 months to receive my license from the day I was there in February. I have been checking the mail hoping to be pleasantly surprised but still nothing. Looks like this is going to get dragged out for 6 months.

I know this isn't the right thread but figured I'd put it here since this is the only active one. What is the deal with the household mental illness question? Would having anxiety result in a denial? I mean half the people in this world are probably on some sort of psychiatric medication.

One of the questions is related to treatment for ANY mental health issues and I'm pretty sure that includes anxiety for which the individual sought medical help in dealing with. I don't want to start ranting about things I've ranted about in the past but these questions about the health issues of individuals in the household are a gross overreach and violation of privacy rights. If you're waiving your right to privacy to get a license is one thing. You should not be coerst into disclosing private information on others to exercise an individual Constitutional right.

Got my Pistol Permit 5 years ago and that time some applicants were waiting nearly 2 years for a Permit. I was fortunate and got mine in 8 months but that was from the Sherriff's Dept. in Riverhead. i don't know if the wait time for western Suffolfk is better now but hopefully it is.

Nope, it’s still around 2+ years. I sent my application in March of this year and was told expect to hear back no earlier than 18-24 months.

So you just raised the height of the current bar to "7 Months" after the interview.

That means possibly September for member name "300", and October for my wife. 300 interviewed in Feb and my wife interviewed in March.
They have been inconsistent. I also interviewed November 2021, and I got my license in the mail at the end of March 2022.

I take anxiety meds and had no impact on my application. Investigator said the question if reference calls to the home about suicide and things of that nature.

How long ago did you get your license?

I don't know what medications are on the red flag list but recently someone mention a medication for anxiety/depression and they were told they needed a letter from the doctor saying the individual was not a danger to themselves or others. Two doctors refused to provide the letter.
