Over time almost all of my scopes have limp shock cords on the caps [no viagra jokes please]

Do most people use them at all or go to flip ups?

Just about all my scopes have Butler Creek flip ups. Buying online can be hit-or-miss fit wise. Just head over to South Shore Sportsman. Prices aren't much more, and you can ensure you get the correct fit.
Butler Creek flip ups on everything. Think I have one set of Leupold flip ups too. A great investment, like vmtcmt said, going to the store to guarantee correct fit is often worth it.
They're worth their weight in gold in the woods when it's raining or snowing. Quick and quiet too.
Check here for a size chart if you do decide to buy the Butler Creek flip covers online. http://www.gunaccessories.com/ButCreekScopeCovers/butler_size_chart.asp

The Leupold covers are nice and I have them on my Mark AR but the cost is crazy compared to the Butler Creek that do the same job.
Southshore is close to me

Now the BIG question ..... dismount the scope(s) or bring the whole gun(s)?
if all you do is shoot at the range then butler creek works fine. anything more hard core and you need to bikini covers

Case it. You're going to a gun store. Nobody is going to give it a second thought. A lot easier than re-zeroing a scope.

Second that.
Don't know the brand scope Mr 454, but if it's a Lupy, I finally broke down and bought a set of the Aluminum flip ups and they are fan-stinkin-tastic. On everything else I use Butler Creeks and they're fine.
Never use the scope caps. Being a lefty, the buttons are on the wrong side.

I have one scope bikini from Cabelas for whichever gun I happen to be carrying in the woods that outing.

I'm a LEFTY too so that is something to consider..

What about storage ..... don't the objectives get dusty even in the safe????

I cleaned 1 of my .22's recently ....... haven't used it 4 or 5 years ...... put away clean, but I was amazed at the amount of dust & crap in the barrel!!
