I just read the bill and below are some of the highlights. This is for anyone possessing a firearm. This not about safety it is about a financial and time barrier to discourage lawful gun possession. Can our legislators work on laws that actually reduce crime?

-5 hour course and 2 hrs of live fire
-after taking the course the applicant must pass a written test administered by the police commissioner/sheriff at the applicant’s expense. The test given every two years must be different from each other
-must be renewed every 2 years
-must be in applicant’s possession when outside the applicants’ home

I see no carveout for holders of CCWs or for folks who already took the 16+2 CCIA required course.

It does not undermine it - It would be in addition to and not clear if CCW holders would have to take it ( I read no exclusion) - but every Sportsman Permit holder would be subject to it.

Who comes up with this crap. If only they put this much effort into keeping guns away from the criminals not all the Legal Gun owners. Do I need a written test to exercise my Religion or my Free speech. I'm really starting to hate this place that I'm stuck living in.

Well if the point is to get all Sportsmens permits, I think that will convince many to go for CCW. I believe that a substantial number of those didn't go for CCW because of the costs and time for training. If they are forced into this, they might as well go the CCW route . So, the time for amendments will probably go to over a year (at least in Suffolk) and there will be MORE people carrying guns...which is exactly what they DONT wan't. In the rush to get all of these laws out, they never think of the unintended consequences ...geniuses.

In the end, the US Supreme Court is going to have a field day with NYS and it's liberal politicians. Thanks to NYC's stupidity, the Bruin decision was self inflicted.
I really like to think so but I’m concerned they might punt under pressure and let the 2nd Ckt ruling stand for years. They (Robert’s) might not want his court to be known as the court that “let the crazy New Yorkers” loose with guns.
I really hope I’m wrong.
