Replacing Pistol Sights

For some time now I have been considering replacing the standard three dot sights on my XD9 sub-compact with night sights. I have read all over the internet that they are difficult sights to replace since the dovetail is extremely tight. I keep going back and forth between doing it myself or sending it out. I'm the kind of guy that would rather do things myself, but given the possibility of damaging the slide I'm considering sending it out. Of course there are horror stories of slides being damaged by gunsmiths and even some right here but what would you do?

If I were to do it myself I would buy a sight tool such as this one from Midway.

Between several pistols and several friends with pistols the tool would be used more than just the one time.

If I were to send it out I would probably use these guys that supposedly specialize in XDs. They have a lot of good reviews.

So here's the question. What would you do and does anyone have experience with a similar tool as the one shown above? Thank you.

PS: I know it's my gun, I know it's my money, I know it's my decision... but I ask for your opinion.

I saw this sight tool reviewed here:

It looks a little rough in the sense that the screw looks to be a coarse thread. I just wonder how fine you can adjust the sights.

Im not a mechanical engineer but the pitch or coarseness of the thread does not affect adjustability in any way.
Normally, I'd suggest you get the sight pusher and do it yourself, but on the XD guns the sights are peened in place, making the job rather difficult.

I'd farm out the job to a competent gunsmith for an XD.

I don't know what the thread is on that tool but lets say for arguments sake it's a 1/4"-20 screw which has 20 threads per inch, i.e. 20 turns results in a 1 inch displacement. Now you look at an extremely fine thread which is a 1/4"-80 screw, a rare thread used in optics, you can see that 80 turns would result in the same 1 inch of displacement. You would have much finer control of the displacement of the sights using the latter screw.

In this case it might not be much of a practical issue but it would be nice to make fine adjustments.
Just use a longer wrench for finer adjustments.
South Shore replaced the sights on my Glock 26; not a single complaint!
I own and XD and have heard the sights cand be very hard to replace so I dont want to chance it. I'll have a gunsmith do it.
Since I am a "works with tools" kinda guy I'd do it my self.
Recently there was a thread about a buggered up sight install by a gunsmith, that got me looking into what it takes to do the job right.
What I found is that it's not as hard as people make it sound when you take your time, use the RIGHT tools, and some finesse.
Take a look at this video

I replaced the rear sight on my Glock with a wooden dowel and a hammer.
Maybe some enterprising soul should invest in an assortment of quality sight pusher jigs and rent them on this forum.
