Ok I'm finally going to order a barrel for my remington 1100 magnum.
A 2 3/4 barrel so I can cycle the lighter loads. Skeet and pheasant and what not.
My question is does anyone know the difference between these two barrels. I am looking for a barrel I can screw chokes in and change em out when needed.
The steel shot barrel will NOT cycle light loads. It lets you shoot 3" steel in a standard receiver. I found out the hard way, and now have 4 barrels for mine (including the slug barrel.)
I just re read you're post & realized you have a magnum receiver. I don't know if the steel barrel will reliably cycle 2 3/4's.
Have you tried Gunbroker for used?
Years ago there was a process related to the gas ports on the lug . I would talk to a gunsmith about modifying your current barrel to handle the lighter loads . Bob Romans would know about it I think . I don't know if he is still at Suffolk Trap and Skeet .
I could be wrong but I doubt changing the barrel will have any effect on cycling lighter loads. You have a magnum receiver, that is what does the cycling. Go over to Shotgunworld.com & post your question there. They are in the know about this.
The difference is that the one barrel comes with a full choke that is steel compatible. The barrels are the same, only the steel full choke is different.
