Reloading components on LI ??

1143 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  mason852
I've been an avid reloader for 40+ years. I buy most of my components online. I would like to support local vendors with my purchasers but I've yet to find a good source for bullets, powder, brass and primers. It seems that all good stocking stores are out-of-state.

Is there any place on LI that has a good inventory of components?

I have been reloading for the same amount of time and tried to buy locally. I ended up going to several stores due to local restrictions and stocking cost. Most stores only keep fast moving components in stock. I ended up getting together with a few friends and buying in bulk.
I have been looking for large pistol primers for over a year not only in N.Y. but also in some well known vendors in S.C.and have come up dry, an online vendor recently had them in stock but the Hazmat fee made the price prohibitive. I agree if you can get a group together and buy online that would work. If anyone wants to trade some of my CCI 34 primers for large pistol primers PM me
In a pinch, can always find, just about anything, on GunBroker….. but it’s very expensive.
I try to get what I can, from CampSite, in Huntington. They were recently doing a deal for ammo, and I THINK reloading supplies are included…. If it’s not in the store, you can order it, from their site, to pick up, in store, and there won’t be the shipping fees.
Also there is a new FFL/ Dealer out in Riverhead, I think it was JJ Armory? Or J & J ? Something like that…. He had said at one point, that he was going to stock supplies… I have not checked as of yet.
Online, I use Midsouth Shooters Supply, and another forum member turned me on to Powder Valley.
Looks like I was correct, there's virtually no place on LI that is a stocking dealer of components. I've been to Campsite a few times but they had very little inventory there. With all the shooters on LI and all the relatively higher incomes here, it's rather surprising that no one has developed a business dedicated to reloaders on LI.

LOL! This is Long Island. They don't mow their own grass but would rather go to a dirty gym. They don't like the shooting sports here; shooting is a traditional American pastime and Long Island is no longer a place with many traditional Americans. Consequently, cartridge reloading, re-chambering, Barrel fitting, turning down bolts for a scope and other sporterising duties are for the most part unavailable. Reloaders buy online or travel for supplies, it's a shame but it is due to the new demographic. I have a number of Mauser's in various stages of being made into a sporter. In particular I would like a stock made and fitted to one 98 that an ancestor had re-chambered to .257 Roberts. I have a very nice piece of walnut for the task but I do not trust my skills to get it prefect the first time. I want it perfect. So it sits until I find someone in my new state.
Just got an email , from Campsite. In stock right now…. First come first served Store opens at 10:00 AM.
