Dad in law has 2 x Remington M700 chambred for 6mm.
One of them has a blown barrel, so wondering what it'll take to rechamber it to 308.

I need to change the barrel + bolt/reciever?
I've been reading conflicting information.

Assuming you mean the 6mm Remington and not some other 6mm… the case head size on the 6mm is 0.472"

The case head size on the .308 is 0.473" That's a nominal difference and the stock bolt face might work just fine. If not it wouldn't be much work for a gunsmith capable of doing the rebarrel job to open it up.

Don't know what might need to be done to the magazine to make it feed right.

Basically you buy a barr blank and typically a double ground lug and have your smith chamber and barrel it.

Rechamber to the most popular rifle in one of the most popular calibers? I would just find a 700 in 308 that  is a proven shooter and sell one to buy the other.
