In most of the states you need a base permit to get an non resident one.

As far as I know you MUST have a NY permit first.

Not necessarily...Utah, because they require a formal course by a state certified instructor, with qualification at the range, doesn't require that you submit proof of a home-state permit. AND...this is the most important part...you can qualify with a pistol caliber carbine rifle. The guy who taught my Utah class about 6 months ago brought one with him just in case anyone wanted to use it to qualify.Sparkz said:As far as I know you MUST have a NY permit first.
BTW, Utah is the best bang for your buck out-of-state permit to get...it buys you one more state of coverage than the Florida one, and you can get it all done in one day...course, qualification, fingerprinting, and everything notarized by the time you walk out the door. Drop it in the mail the next day and you've got your permit in about 3 months.

Is this something we should look into as a group activity? It would be great if a bunch of us could all apply together.

You might try and contact the guy who runs it and see if he'll set up a course just for LIFers...he's a nice guy. Class I took was packed to the gills, so you might have to set something up separate if there's a lot of interest.Starman said:Is this something we should look into as a group activity?
