I am seeing all these posts pop up so I had to ask....are you guys getting these permits with or without having a NY state permit?
Not necessarily...Utah, because they require a formal course by a state certified instructor, with qualification at the range, doesn't require that you submit proof of a home-state permit. AND...this is the most important part...you can qualify with a pistol caliber carbine rifle. The guy who taught my Utah class about 6 months ago brought one with him just in case anyone wanted to use it to qualify.Sparkz said:As far as I know you MUST have a NY permit first.

Took mine at the Mitchell Field range back in May.Starman said:Do you have to be in Utah to take the course or can a Utah certified instructor give the course and qualify us here?

You might try and contact the guy who runs it and see if he'll set up a course just for LIFers...he's a nice guy. Class I took was packed to the gills, so you might have to set something up separate if there's a lot of interest.Starman said:Is this something we should look into as a group activity? It would be great if a bunch of us could all apply together.
