SAN DIEGO - San Diego police are continuing to investigate the fatal shooting of two men in a Tierrasanta apartment to determine whether the incident was self-defense or a crime.

Kamren Halfacre, 19, and Ryan West, 22, were killed early Saturday in the second-floor apartment on Repecho Drive near Angtigua Boulevard.

Police said the men had gone to the apartment with a woman and her 4-year-old son and that the husband shot and killed the two men after an argument. The woman was injured.

The husband, who is in the military, was questioned and released Saturday. The child is staying with family friends, police said.

Homicide Lt. Kevin Rooney said the two men entered the house minutes after the woman and her son arrived about 12:15 a.m. and that a lengthy argument between the husband and the men ended in the shooting just before 1 a.m.

"All I can say is there were some things that were allegedly said and done that raise the possibility that what the man did in the home was the use of self-defense," Rooney said Monday.

He said the man had met West before, but he did not know about Halfacre.

Rooney said detectives are reinterviewing witnesses and will forward their results to the District Attorney's Office, which will determine whether to file criminal charges.

According to court records, West pleaded guilty in 2007 to separate charges of unlawful sexual intercourse and robbery and was placed on three years' probation. At some point, records show, he violated his probation and it was revoked.
