Pistol Permit waiting...

Greetings,

Can anyone tell me how long a wait it should be for my NY Suffolk County pistol license once all paperwork has been submitted? After a year and a half wait I was interviewed, fingerprinted and turned in my references two weeks ago today.

Most likely every detective is different. One of the questions was, why do I want it. I shoot trap, and wanted to try pistol. He asked where do I shoot. Felt like he was trying to trip me up. Lol I said pretty much across the street. Which is true.

The question "why do I want it" should never be asked. It's my right as a law abiding American citizen.

The political climate in this country is absurd...more rights and services for criminals, not law abiding citizens. Guess I got mine 25yrs ago, 2 week wait for the interview, might have been 3 months more for the license.

I had my interview this week, same as you. The officer told me possibly 6 mths for investigation to be completed. :oops: I waited a year + 6 months from time I hand delivered my application in Yaphank, to finally granted an interview as well.

This wait time is absolutely ridiculous. There is no reason FL can process an application in weeks and it takes Suffolk County 2 years other than to dissuade folks from going through the process. I seriously doubt it takes them more than a few months to do the investigation for candidates being considered for SCPD or the Sheriff's Department. Two years for a pistol license???

My bro moved to TN, and got his CCW in 2 days. Shooting in his backyard, 20 mins later police knock on his door and say “sorry sir, we have to investigate all calls, you are lawfully allowed to discharge firearms on your property, just be safe, make sure you have a backstop, again, sorry for bothering you sir, and safe shooting”. Thats the way it should be. My bro says jokingly to the officer “I moved here from NY to get away from these people (the complainer)”, and the officer starts laughing and said “unfortunately there are a few of them here too”.

Out curiosity, do we know if they called because he was shooting guns or because he was making noise shooting guns?

I originally applied in February 2021, got my fingerprinting done September 2022 and my permit was mailed out exactly 6 months to the day from my fingerprinting. They definitely try to stretch it out as long as possible

Hi,

For you reference here in Holbrook LI. I started the process from scratch in Feb 21 and got my license in April of this year 2023. After the final reference letters were signed and sent back to Yaphank, I got the plastic pistol license in the mail 1 month later.

Hi,
