Where in Ohio are you going to be?

As far as free, Ohio is on the Western side of the Iron Curtain.

If you have a Fla or Utah or another of about 20 or so licenses with reciprocity, you are good to go. If you do not have a reciprocal license, you cannot carry open or concealed in a motor vehicle or concealed anywhere else.

You can open carry if you are not in a state mandated criminal protection zone like a school, courthouse or any other government building. If you open carry in Akron, Canton or Cleveland (little New York) you may be hassled for it but it is still not prohibited outside of state criminal protection zones.

Like all states, even a free one has some retarded laws and here is ours:

1. If stopped by a police officer for law enforcement purposes, you must immediately notify if you are carrying a loaded gun on a reciprocal CCW license. You do not have to notify if you just have an unloaded gun in the trunk under FOPA. You may not carry a loaded gun, open or concealed in a motor vehicle, without a valid license. Oddly, if you do not have a CHL, you are not required to notify. We're working on this law now.

2. A loaded mag is considered a loaded gun. If you are just transporting via FOPA, your mags should be unloaded.

3. You may own or possess but may not insert a magazine holding 31 or more rounds into a firearm unless it is registered as a destructive device. So don't walk around with your 33 round mags loaded in your Glock.

Other than the above mentioned carry issues, there is not that much to worry about. No AWB, no shoulder-things-that-go-up nonsense. No silly magazine restrictions other than the stupid one above. There is not much you can bring with you that you cannot possess here. If you have any full-auto stuff, you should have your tax papers with it.

Always research the laws of the states you are travelling to and through as that is your responsibility.

"State mandated criminal protection zone"

Does this mean the State protects criminals while they are in this area? ;D
