Confused about whether or not I have to pay NY Sales tax. Will be purchasing an AR from AR15Sales.com. Pete informed me that they will not be charging sales tax on the purchase.
What is the recommended thing to do? Do I have to claim the purchase on my NYS Income tax or do I just pay the FFL transfer fee and go about my merry way?

Pay the FFL fee and the tax on the FFL fee. You are "LEGALLY" supposed to claim it on your taxes.

You are required to pay "use" tax on any item you purchased from out of state. You would get a credit on any sales tax paid to the state of purchase.

Those are the regulations.

In reality, little chance once you check the box on your NY Tax return that states you do not owe use tax that anyone will catch it.

Don't worry so much...enjoy your purchase.

They can only collect their fee and the tax on their fee. If they attempt to charge you tax on your purchase, run.
