It’s about time a County Executive is listening to his constituents and will make the necessary changes if the Supreme Court rules that New York’s Pistol License scheme unconstitutional.
I always liked the idea of training used in upstate Counties to remove restrictions.

You know am a firm believer in training, but I have seen it weaponized over and over against those wanting to exercise their constitutional rights. There are counties in NY right now that tell applicants that they MUST complete training to even submit an application for a license, even though that has been ruled illegal. When proof of this is submitted to them, they allow THAT ONE applicant to apply without it, but then tell the next in line that they need it

Great comments. This is NY and if there is a favorable SCOTUS ruling for us, they (NYS Govt) are going to require some training. It's just the reality of living here. We both know most states with shall issue CCW require some familiarity and training.

This is the rub because like you said, it can in a sense be weaponized to restrict people. But it's also necessary because many people simply have no familiarity with firearms and importantly, when they can use "deadly force" with their firearms. A little knowledge is a good thing so that people won't get themselves in trouble. Sadly, Cuomo forced the CCW insurances out of NY. Called it "murder insurance". What is wrong with someone being able to be insured in the event they have to use their firearm in self-defence?

Westchester is the ONLY county in NYS that can require training (it is in state law), expect that to change
