And I like my pre Accu-Trigger 111 in .30-06, too. Tough to go wrong with a Savage, especially for the price.

You call that shooting....we have guys here that can perform the bris at 200 yards. :p
I like the newer Savage lineup. And I'm a confirmed Ruger lover. I'm toying with setting up a .22-250 specifically as a Coyote gun and I'm planning to go with a Savage rifle. (If I had more spare time for the Coyotes, this project would already be done).

However, while 6-24 is nice for punching holes in paper @ 300 yards from a bench, I think it would truly be a hinderance in the NY deer woods.
Like was stated, a 6-24 scope is too much scope for hunting here in NY. Fine for out West. But at typical deerhunting ranges of 25 yards or less sometimes, you won't be able to pick up deer. Plus the Banner models are the lower quality of Bushnell scopes. The Elite 3200 would be better. I have one in 2-7 for hunting around here.
I agree with everyone just buying the scope as a practice for target practice. This is just because i dont want to drop major coin on a custom 700 yet but when i do trust me eveything will be top of the line on the gun. But for now i have to settle on the savage and a cheap scope(like 110 to my door) and like i said its for hunting/target it comes with a 3-9x40 scope. The one it comes with is the one im gonna use for hunting. The one im buying is the one that will be for target practice. Also gonna spend 90 on a new trigger to get the trigger pressure down to about 1 lb.
Be careful with light trigger pulls. Too easy to pop off a round when you don't mean to. I have a Savage with Accutrigger, and let me tell you that until I got used to it I spent a lot of time resetting the secondary safety mechanism.

I don't know you, nor do I know your rifle proficiency. So, if I'm speaking out of school, I'll apologize in advance.

However, assuming you have limited rifle experience, I'd leave the gun alone until I were extremely proficient with it. I've got a few rifles that I brought over 30 years ago that I still leave stock.

Aside from the safety ramifications of altering a firearm, there's also a few legal ramifications.
T.Web ive actually grown up around guns, taught like every one should be tought to respect guns, never play with them, never point them at anything you didnt want to kill. Ive gone shooting alot just needed some opinions on the setup. It will also take 8-12 weeks to get the trigger and if im not comfortable with the gun the work wont be done to it. If the work is done to it im going to do it gradually lower it not gonna jump straight from 6lbs to 1lb. The gun would feel to weird. I thank you guys for the concerns and opinions.:thanx
eastplayer87 If you are still looking for the Savage Edge Dick's has them for 379.98. I just came from the store on Rt 110. I know you are looking for 30-06. They had .223 and 22-250 on display. You can call them to see if they have them in stock in back.Comes with realtree camo.
lol sports authority in sayville has them for 300 only thing is i might want to get it in 308 cause i can get them in bulk
Give me 150.00  and you can have the 3x9 leupold off  my marlin 45-70.Thats a good deal for a great scope!!!
already got a scope need a gun without it. Thanks though was thinking about a 700 but i want the stainless barreled model, just got to save the money up first.
