MTA Police hiring?

6810 Views 30 Replies 19 Participants Last post by  EldoEsq
I was talking to a buddy of mine (who is NCPD) regarding the whole lack of jobs for most recent grads, and asked him about going into law enforcement. Planned on taking the NYPD test this summer and wanted to know his take on it.

He went through the same thing back in the original recession in 2007/08 and wound up getting into the NCPD, so I figured it was worth a shot.

Obviously they aren't hiring, but he told me that he heard the MTA was.

Anyone know anything about that? If that is the case where do I go to take the test and what not, he said something about an office building on main street in Hempstead.

I looked on the website, and they didn't say they were hiring or anything like that. :-/

Dude I went to the website determined to find what you missed and came up empty. There is no information on what to do to start the process. I would just call the MTA main # and get some guidance.
They had a now hiring ad in the nypost the other day. Give it a shot.

That's what my folks said too.

I wound up finding the hiring link off of a few officer.com postings, though the actual MTA site says otherwise.

*fingers crossed* I hope they take kindly to engineers.

Keep an eye out for career fairs. I was at one today, a few companies were looking for engineers.
Under 35 only... I'm out!

I have a friend that just went out on 3/4 from MTA... Said the job isn't all that bad

I've applied to literally, almost every engineering firm on LI at one point or another. Had some promising stuff out in Bohemia and Ronkonkoma, but everyone seemed to enter a hiring freeze or be in a hiring freeze, even though they are actively recruiting... /shrug/

I had to miss that one because I had a shift at the deli I've been at since I was in junior high. The only place that would take me atm. :p

I've always heard good things about law enforcement, and always had a calling for it, but I'm going to have a hard time justifying a $150k+ engineering degree with a masters and making a career out of law enforcement, but oh well, the economy sucks and small businesses are getting shat on left and right, even by the POTUS... what can ya do...

Not to mention being EX-LEO and county executive would be nice! :p
hey i have a H.S diploma and some Army time and 10 years on the job. i banked 120,000 last year in the NYPD. not bad in my book!
If you do plan on going LEO, take your Facebook pages down NOW!. they will look, and it can hurt you. Good luck if you get an interview.
Man. I guess I should get rid of all that NRA stuff and conservative propaganda.

Shy of a court order and a supena they will not have access to anything on my fb, and I'm a tinfoil hat wearing individual.

Looking through photos now just to double check that there is nothing that would harm a potential County Exec. candidacy, stumbled upon two realizations... I miss my grandfather, and I was faaaaat 6 months+ ago.

I'd be more concerned with the stuff I post here to be honest. :p
What kind of engineer are you?  I've got a friend who may be looking for civil/structural engineers on LI.
There's an Mta test this summer you might be to late to sign up but I would jump on that ASAP I took the last test I think in 08 and just recently received an email telling me my test had expired oh well to old for another test now anyway

They dont need a court order or a SUBPOENA...If you want the job, you have to grant them access. If you dont, you will not be hired.

You are applying for a job that requires a background check...this has nothing to do with your rights.

When a check was run on me, the DT made me sign into Facebook on his computer. He turned around as I put my password in, and he looked at my page and pics briefly.

I'm surprised a background check includes that sort of thing frankly. I would like to see the actual legalese justification for it. Also wasn't there a recent court ruling that said employers don't have the right to do that nor ask for your online passwords?

Regardless - I have nothing to hide. Whether they find the information themselves or I give it to them is inconsequential to me.
