Reena Rose Sibayan/The Jersey JournalVanessa Marty, 23, of New York, appears in Central Judicial Processing in Jersey City via video link from the Hudson County jail. She is charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and weapons offenses.

A 23-year-old mother of two young children pulled a gun from her baby carriage and fired it at the Jersey City father of her children in a fit of rage over his new girlfriend, police said.

Vanessa Marty, of New York, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of children, police reports said.

Marty dropped off her two kids -- a 3-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy -- at their father's home on Bergen Avenue at 11 a.m. Monday and asked the kids' father to use his cell phone, reports said. She then looked through the logged phone calls, called the man's new girlfriend and began arguing with her, police said.

When the 22-year-old Jersey City man grabbed his phone and locked himself in the bedroom, the mother of his children kicked in the door, police said. The man then wrestled Marty into the apartment building hallway, where she grabbed the Astra Unceta 9mm handgun from the baby carriage and fired a shot that lodged in a wall, reports said.

A police spokesman said it isn't known if one of the children was in the carriage with the gun. The children stayed with the father after the incident, police said.

Marty fled the building, but was caught by police on Sackett Street, cops said, adding that the gun was discovered in the waistband of Marty's pants. Marty complained of a pain in her ribs and was treated at the Jersey City Medical Center, police said.
