My 1st cousin wanted to be a cop and while waiting, got his MA in Criminal Justice (I advised him NOT to go for Crim. Just, but he did anyway). He got on a police department south of here and after about 6 years he got hurt at work, had neck surgery and retired. He thought he was 'set' with his MA and (somewhat small for living in NY) pension - he's been looking for a decent job for 5+ years, working security for $15 - $20 an hour to pay bills. His Criminal Justice MA is getting him nowhere (so far), but we're keeping our fingers crossed.

Money better spent going to law school. Or MBA.
I did one year of Masters of Criminal Justice before I woke up. It was useful in the sense that it was incredibly easy to get 4.0s,
My brother completed his while already on the job. Marginally useful if you later want to teach or something.
