Mare's Leg

Just got the new American Rifleman and there's an ad for Rossi's new Mare's Leg.... Oh baby!
Don't think it's NY legal (would be too much fun I guess). I figure it will be illegal because of weight or someother kind of horsepuky

Your thoughts on legality?

Thanks

Is that the cut a dowm lever action rife if so it is but you have to have a pistol permit to get it
it consittered a pistol

If it is manufactured as a pistol, it doesn't need the authorization from BATFE that converting a rifle requires (as far as I know). If the barrel is less than 16" and doesn't have a shoulder stock it is a pistol, and shouldn't present a problem
No reason for it not to be NY legal, it's not a semi auto so weight isn't an issue.

Taurus was making them, but so over priced it wasn't even funny. (half the gun shouldn't cost 2-3 times the price). Now Rossi is making them at what seems to be a quite reasonable price. I sure don't need one but it sure is tempting. Not very practical but probably a good deal of fun. It fits within the price cap of "novelty guns" for me.

thanks for the info. 12inch barrel, stock cut off .... has got to be something. I would prefer a full stock but either way it's got me with my eyes popping out!

Good for shooting zombies
They did not say when the ankle holster will be available. ;D

This would be wild in 454 of 460Ruger
come on kiddies.  the original was the greatest:  steve mcqueen.  it was his character in wanted dead or alive that gave birth to the name mare's leg.
Here's one you won't see every day, a '76 mare's leg.

I doubt you'd want to shoot it more than one or two times.

Hey guys, I know this is an older post but just thought you might get a kick out of the Mare's Legs I made (in my computer) the first one is an 1894 Winchester and the other is an Hi-Point 995. My son-in-laws says I have too much time on my hands. what do you think.?

The gun stores I've talked to about this won't get you one anymore because they say the State Police have deemed this a short barrel rifle even though no one outside NY state agrees with that assesment, including the ATF.
Legal in all states except NY.
Frank, I love these Zombie threads. They are awesome! Thanks for bringing back the dead.
No problem nightday I'm new here and it seems like I missed allot, while at least I got the hang of the date stamp thing and still not answering questions that were asked last year.

Well I always asked myself if they could have made the Hi-Point any uglier, here's the answer

Not knocking your art work but the gun itself
