From Fox News LA:

The guns were altered to fire blanks for training but can be easily reconverted to accept live ammo. The haul included sub machine guns:

Suspect is of unknown ethnicity, height, weight- look for the guy with nuttz like watermelons.
I'd like to say something but feel I'd be......:deadhorse
I'm wonder how difficult it is going to be to get these firearms set-up for shooting live rounds.

In the military our M-16's only required the removal of a fitting on the end of the barrel that prevented any gas and particles from escaping the barrel when firing blanks.
Change the Barrel on the handguns and MP5s not too hard
If the MP5 is using a blank firing adapter (like this one), you just pop it off:

Why would they be running blank guns? Maybe it was dedicated sims guns.

Training ops. Many departments use altered barrels to prevent loading or firing a live round
A little searching the interwebs and I am sure they would be fully functional...
Not Good.

"21 MP-5 submachine guns and 12 large caliber handguns" Guessing 1911's
     Eric Holder did it .

lol I was just thinking "we can rule out the mexican gangs, we already hooked them up for free"
I thought this sort of thing only happens in movies. These criminals have some balls to steal guns from a PD warehouse.

Oh ?? Well then, now those guns are Mexico's problem ... until they work their way back here.

Hmmmmm

Who would have known they were there......LOL

I was thinking the same thing. Inside job, anyone?
The link says that they were "stored on the first floor of a city building", I agree with John an inside job alright.
