I know this is a very specific issue but if they can deny access this easily at one lake they can do it anywhere.
I was hoping you might be able to lend a bit of support. Recently Greg Dawson, Commissioner of Suffolk County Parks closed access to Blydenburgh Lake in Smithtown for Kayakers. In the past kayakers were advised to use the back entrance to the park on New Mill Road which is only accessed by traveling through a residential area. 30 Residents complained about the traffic, (on a busy Saturday you will see maybe 5 kayakers on the lake at once) and every other imaginable issue so last week Greg Dawson and Leslie Kennedy, Suffolk County Legislator, 12th L.D. closed access to the lake for Kayakers at the New Mill Road entrance.
If residential traffic is truly the issue we are asking is to be allowed to put our boats in at the main entrance off of 347, pay the park fee and another fee to launch which would solve the problem and put some extra money in their pocket. I can't get a clear answer as to why they are resistant to this idea but I was told no. We don't need a dock or a ramp just a two foot piece of the shoreline to launch out boats. After speaking with both Ms. Kennedy and Mr. Dawson it was made clear that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, which is exactly what Ms. Kennedy said to me. So I was hoping you guys would assist with some squeaking?
Every little bit helps an email or a phone call asking why we are no longer able to paddle or access Blydenburgh lake would be sufficient to get the ball rolling.
