Just Moved to New Jersey

I moved to new jersey after 40 years in brooklyn and have just applied for my pistol license. Here is what i have found out so far about the process. They give you the application at the local pd it is 2 pages long. Nothing needs to be notarized. You fill it out right there and give it back to them. One page is the application and the other is the page you sign giving them permission to do a mental health check. They then give you a form for fingerprinting which is $60. After your prints come back and your 2 references send back their letters they will then call you to come pick up your license and pay the licensing fee of $5 yes thats five dollars as opposed to $340 and $94 dollars for NYC licensing ans fingerprinting. You do not need a separate license for rifles and pistols in NJ it is one license. If you want to purchase a handgun then you pay $5 and fill out a form (the same one i filled out for the application you just check a different box) and let them know how many purchase orders you want. From what i gathered the whole process should only take a few weeks. I was surprised how easy it was. I know the laws suck there to probably just as bad or worse than NY but what a pleasant experience.

It's not that simple. I have a friend who lives in Fort Lee. You can only purchase one hand gun per month. Magazine capacity limit is 15. It's impossible to posses hallow point ammo. (You can posses it, you can't transport it and can't buy it) And depends on where, PO may take up to 3-4 months to get.

Do the Hornady Critical Defense rounds count as hollow points?

I'd figure the LAST place a NY bred gun owner would wanna move to would be Jersey. You must really hate pumping your own gas. Good luck dealing with those Troopers and that Turnpike and those stupid left hand turns. :p

in ny you can only purchase a handgun every 3 months and the mag capacity is ten. 3-4 months i am sure is possible but i was told 3-4 weeks. Yes it is another liberal sinkhole. Not sure if i went from bad to worse.

Jersey... ohhhh boy.

Suspicious gas pumpers that disappear with your credit card.
Annoying U turns that take you elsewhere than the opposite direction.
The Blue Law. What? No shopping on Sundays!!
The exorbitant price of auto insurance! (Well, it figures once you drive there).
The effervescent odor of factories during your morning run.
The latest Navigation Systems tell me, "Where the f*c* am I?"
The list can go on...

Wishing you the best in your new hole... err I mean home! ;)

Peace,

My girlfriend wants me to move to NJ so she can be closer to her family. I figured the laws there were much worse than Long Island. Am i wrong? So they do not have an assault magazine ban or 11 month waits for a PL?

New Jersey.  The Garbage State.    Drive west 'til you smell it and south 'til you step in it.  You will like the price of gas there.  What took you so long?  Most people left Brooklyn after the Verrazano Bridge was built.  Oh yeah, try and find a good pizza there. Let us know how this works out for you.
