No fear mongering by the paper.
As Joe Friday says, "just the facts".

While being pistol-whipped by the second gunman, Ryan was able to pin the first assailant to the ground, he said. The gun he was struggling for fired, shooting off two of the robber's fingers, Ryan said in an interview with the Tulsa World on Saturday afternoon

I hope I am that awesome at 59...
I am all for defending yourself, but this part is really scary:

"A third man, who was driving the apparent getaway vehicle, ran toward the struggle with his gun drawn but retreated when Ryan brandished the weapon he had taken. Ryan said he then fired five shots and believes he may have hit that man, too.

Police said they found bullet holes in two houses across the street, most likely from shots fired by Ryan."

Sorry, that is just plain wrong. What if one of those errant shots hit a neighbor? I don't care how much adrenaline is flowing. This guy is lucky he's not facing manslaughter charges on account of taking out a neighbor.

Got to disagree, man with gun coming towards you you fire! This wasn't in NY all that would happen would be maybe a law suit. If someone was hit it would go to the actions of the perps. The guy did what he had to do my hats off to him!
it is not the age it is the miles.

age and experience beats youth and cunning every time

We cannot judge since we weren't there. He was in fear for his life and responded accordingly.
Good on him.

Know your target and what is beyond. This is why in Tactical Training and ACCURACY is king. You can be held accountable for every round you fire.

Cheese and rice! 56 isn't old fellas! Well, not from my vantage point anyway.
You younger guys - quit digging holes for us of the chronilogically challenged ilk.

I may not be first choice for point man any longer, but you'd be happy to have me at your 6.
Now - get off my lawn!
