help sighting in red dot

I was having some issues the other day when sighting in my red dot sight. I am new at this and have never had to sight in optics before. Please help when within 15 yards she is dead on but as it goes out farther I can see where I am hitting. I almost feel like It is not lining up. If I move it more forward toward the barrell will that help me get in the right range or is my sight just garbage or am I just retarded? thanks guys.

? Anyone! free chance to call me an idiot.
There is line of sight which is straight line established by your scope and the is a bullet trajectory which is curved. The trajectory starts at the muzzle which is about 2" below the line of sight. You want the point of impact to line up with point of aim at about 50-100 feet.

Well............ you're not. That is the way you have it sighted in..... for 15 yards. I also have a red dot on my Ruger Mark 111 Hunter sighted for 50 feet Dead on - constant 3/4 inch groupings. However when shooting out to 25 yards I have to adjust my POA for the POI.
Thank you George. I think I understand that. What that would mean id that if I put the sight farther forward it would bring me up higher toward my line of sight.

No Remember it is not a scope. Think of the red dot as iron sights. Adjust your elevation screw for what you want your POI to be.
Red dot scopes are designed more for close quarter combat, not long distance shooting. For 50 yards or more, I recommend a magnification scope (3-9X).
I will be available to go to Mitchell Field sometime this weekend (could make it tonight, or Sat or Sun after 1PM) and definitely be there Monday night around 7PM. I have a laser boresighter in my range bag. If you want to meet up, let me know when you will be there.
