I mailed my application 6/24 in the afternoon.  I received it today, 7/1.  It was issued 6/28.  Pretty much 1 day turnaround.  Next is FLA.

They realize we went through hell and high water to get our NY licenses, that's why I think we them so quick from PA.

Be careful new legislation was introduced by a dem/lib in that state to stop concealed carry for nonresidents.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ON LICENSE TO CARRY FIREARM
ACT 66 2005 THE STANDARDIZATION & MODERNIZATION OF PROCESS SYSTEM

This new statewide system will change the method of completing the application and the manner the Sheriff issues the newly developed identification type license to carry a firearm.
Once implemented the applicant will have to appear at the Sheriff's Office where their driver's license will be electronically scanned to capture needed data. The applicant will also have to be photographed and sign the electronic signature pad to complete the process. The system need be compatible with the Commonwealth's Information Technology Standard.
By law the new system must be implemented no later than May 2011, however it is expected that all Sheriffs will have the new system in place by the end of 2010. A pilot type program is scheduled to start in one county within the next month or two. If the system works as expected, more sheriffs will start implementing the system shortly.
Once we have a date as to when Centre County will start the new system it will be posted on this site.

This will be the new procedure. we will have to go to the Sheriffs Office to apply for a new license and for renewal.

This will make a nice road trip.

I thought the new legislation was to stop residents from carrying on other non-resident license such as Florida?? I wouldn't think they would be so quick as to give up a revenue stream from non-residents.

I had better mail mine in--I want to be sure and have it for the annual meeting in Pittsburgh next year.

How long do you have to live in PA to get a Pistol permit?

A- No permit or license needed. You only need one to conceal carry. Walk into a store, pick out your gun, instant background check, and you done.

I'm not sure you can legally buy a handgun in Pa. with a NY address on your license. For that, you should check with some FFl's in Pa. But, you won't be able to bring your Pa. handgun back to New york, unless you have a valid NYS pistol license. And, then you'll need to bring the hand gun to a Pa. FFL dealer, and have it shipped to a NY FFL dealer. Then take posession in NY.

Can't buy a pistol in PA. Its still treated as out of state. I've tried at numerous stores throughout PA. The permit is good to conceal carry while visiting PA, as well as go shooting. I have relatives in PA, so that's how mine is used.

Funny, everyone makes such a big deal about the PA license, but are we really using it the right way. Can't buy a gun, and can't really drive through ny to nj, to pa with it.. So you have to keep your fingers crossed and drive through the states. Once in PA, you can conceal, but the bigger picture is if you get stopped by PA Policia, he might ask how you got it in to PA.. meaning what channels you took to legally bring it into the state.. Your pistol might be confescated..

Everyone, please correct me if I'm wrong here..
