Firearm Owners Identification Card

I was just talking to my cousin who recently retired from the Navy and moved to Illinois because the hunting is "awesome". However, he now has to carry this Illinois FOID card whenever he has a firearm with him (shotgun, rifle, or handgun), or when you buy ammo. If he goes to a border state they'll ask where he's from whereupon he has to present his FOID card.

You have to apply to the local PD whereupon they will do a background check on you.

He says that basically whatever laws are passed that covers Chicago it'll bleed out to the rest of the state in one form or another.

About like your pistol license except it applies to all guns but is far easier and quicker to get.

Do they track ammo sales or just make sure legals firearm owners are purchasing? (not that either is ok, just wondering)

My cousin didn't say anything about tracking sales. Just that he had to show the card. Showing the card also applies in neighboring states.

Three places have FOID cards, Illinois, Massachusetts and Cuba. All full of commies.

The city of Toledo, Ohio tried it a few years ago, along with a list of banned guns and reduced capacity magazines but we ended that with state preemption.

New Jersey requires an FOID card as well.
