Florida Teen Shooting Tragedy

The death in Florida is truly a tragedy and the locals should deal with it quickly and appropriately. My question is should this become a Federal case or is this strictly a State and local issue to be dealt with? I see it as another poltical opportunity being taken advantage of to advance the ant-2A agenda.

SANFORD, Fla. - The investigation into last month's shooting death of an unarmed black teenager in an Orlando suburb is out of the hands of the beleaguered police chief and the county prosecutor with the Justice Department looking at possible civil rights violations and a grand jury perhaps considering charges.

Until admitted shooter George Zimmerman, 28, is led away in handcuffs, the parents of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin and the civil rights activists and others who have rallied for their cause say they won't be satisfied.

Shooter's friend believes killing was justifiable

"We cannot allow a precedent when a man can just kill one of us ... and then walk out with the murder weapon," said civil rights leader Al Sharpton, flanked by Martin's parents and a stage full of supporters at a rally in Sanford on Thursday night. "We don't want good enough. We want George Zimmerman in court with handcuffs behind his back."

Police Chief Bill Lee said earlier in the day that he was stepping down temporarily to try to cool the building anger that his department did not arrest neighborhood watch volunteer Zimmerman, who has said he shot Martin on Feb. 26 in self-defense. Hours later, the governor announced that the local state attorney, Norman Wolfinger, had recused himself from the case.

How is this a tragedy. The article says it was justifiable.
Can't critique "Sharp Tongue" on this one...   Although his talents would probably be better used to combat the daily Black on Black murder spree that is rampant in our society.

Justifiable my A&*.....man with a gun shoots teenage boy who has no weapon. Yeah right, thats justifiable ??)
And if you watch the video, the 911 operator even tell the guy, stop following the kid. This guy should be locked up.
The neighborhood watch guy was wrong. This was not what the "Stand your ground" law was about. The local popo's definitely dropped the ball here. (Not bashing, just observing. And my observations are based on the presented evidence).

Unfortunately this will lead to bad press for the Stand-your-Ground and pro 2A advocates as well.
Always 3 sides to every story. My interpretation is, the shooter was the initial aggressor and not protected by the stand your ground law. 911 told him they didn't need him to peruse the suspect and he didn't listen.

This guys actions IMO bring negative attention to a touchy subject at a time when we all as Americans need positive things to happen in the gun world!

We have no idea what really happened yet, and this young man is not around to tell his side of the story sadly.
But what we do know is that George Zimmerman followed this kid in a car when police dispatch was telling him NOT to do that.
Clearly, he had every opportunity to avoid this conflict and chose not to.

Stand your ground or not, that's ridiculous.

It sounds more like hunting than watching the neighborhood. This is the stuff that gives the rest of us a bad name.
There is a lot in this case that needs to be investigated. "Stand your ground" and "use of deadly physical force" laws will be heavily scrutinized.

-Say the 17yo did attack the watch captain; he was only using a fists. The watch captain used deadly physical force to match physical force. "stand your ground" laws in FL might not apply because he didnt stand his ground, he knowingly went over to the kid and escalated the situation.
-The watch captain still followed the kid even after 911 dispatch told him not too. The kid was scared shitless, as per the conversation with his girlfriend, because the watch captain was stalking him. I dont know about you, but if I was that kid I would think that person was trying to rob or jump me and I would protect myself if I had to.

Troll.
Tough case. Was there a grand jury convened to look at this?

I concur that it is bad press for carry and self defense law.
Bad things happen, and I'm sure when all the facts are in, the guy will be prosecuted if he did anything wrong.  I think the greater tragedy is the race traders like Sharpton and Farrakan trying to ignite racial tensions and perpetuate hate and racism for their own personal and political gain.  I'm sure they saw the name Zimmerman and jumped all over it before having a single fact in hand, such as the guy is actually Hispanic.
According to the authors of the 'stand your ground' law, this was *not* a case where it applies:

This whole case is atrocious. If the Florida police would of handled this properly frothy get go there would be no need for the Feds to intervene. Listen to the 911 calls from the shooter who was following the 17 yr old who weighed 100 pounds less then him armed with skittles and an Arizona iced tea, and the neighbor who called as George fired his first shot that missed followed by his 2nd fatal shot, as the teenager begged for help. Read the story cause its actually pretty messed up how poorly this whole case has been handled up until this point. The shooter has called 911 40+ times in the last year leading to no arrests. Paul Blart syndrome.
Semi unrelated side note:
I wish Sharpton would just stop...
He is doing blacks a disservice.
Credibility is immediately lost when he or Jackson shows up.
Al Sharpton has nothing to do with the case, the facts do.

3 sides to a story, listen to the 2 911 calls recorded and read the facts of the case. All 3 sides say the same thing. This genetic defect should be put down. One bad apple spoils the whole bunch, this idiot just made everyone who owns a gun look bad. He has literally called 911 over 40 times in a year to report suspicious characters, all of whom were black. He was the "neighborhood watch" who didn't realize he was stalking his own neighbor.
It pains me to say this, but Sharpton and his ilk may have played a useful roll here.  Absent their involvement it seems that the death of Martin would by now have been swept under the carpet.
