My wife has never been particular enthusiastic about guns, but she's become obsessed with this election and she asked me to teach her how to shoot just in case. We finally got a chance to get down to the range yesterday and I started her off with a 10/22 takedown (plain jane) with cheap federal ammo. After 15 minutes of safety instructions and basic rifle mechanics she shot a 10 round quarter sized group at ten yards with iron sights--offhand. I thought it was beginners luck, but she shot another 30 rounds with similar results. I moved her out to 25 yards (at Mitchell Field) and she shot shot 1/2" groups offhand with iron sights ((with the exception of a few flyers that were probably ammo related based on the sound of the reports). I don't think I have ever done that in my life (or could do that). I also had her shoot 50 rounds on my mini 14, aside for the fact that both weapons were too long for her (and she was getting tired), she took to the mini just like the 10/22. In other words, 1.5" groups, off hand with iron sights using the mini at 25 yards. I have taken lessons, classes and have had thousands of rounds of practice and she is a better shot than me right out of the starting gate--and the guns weren't even close to fitting her (she's tiny and probably needs a compact sized/kids rifle that is better suited for her frame). I was so freaking proud!!! I think I am going to have to build her an AR for Christmas/Chanukah.If SHTF, she'll be the family sniper.
