Folks:
Now that the COVID nonsense is behind us, we're able to resume firearms training and educational events, for the general public. Old Bethpage R&P Club advises that we can have any of the Saturdays, in September of this year: 9/3, 9/10, 9/17 or 9/24, to hold a Females and Firearms Educational Event.
I don't expect we will use 9/3, since that's Labor Day weekend but we can't determine a final date, until we hear from our potential staff, telling us which Saturday(s) they are available. We will choose the one on which we can assemble 13 range instructors, one target scorer, plus one "tidying-up" person. (We already have a commitment, from the two classroom instructors, who can do it, on any of those days).
Please advise, ASAP, by PM, if you would like to help and which Saturday(s) are possible for you and which function(s) you are willing to perform. Anyone wishing to help, as a range instructor, must be a certified rifle instructor and, because of insurance/liability issues, we'll need a copy of your certification card.
Once we have a final date, I'll post it, along with application/registration forms, which we will, also, E-mail, to other groups. The class size will be limited, as always, to 39 students (3 range relays of 13 each). Students, for this event, must be female and at least 12 years of age, on the date of the class.
We will run a Youth Shoot, in the Spring of 2023, for boys and girls, ages 12~18 but it was too late, this year, to schedule one.
We appreciate the past offers to donate ammo but, for the sake of uniformity, in siting and target acquisition, we use the same ammo (even the same batch number), all day, for all rifles and we already have it.
Thanks.
Gary

P.S. Since it's been a couple of years, since we've been able to run one of these events, I thought it might be beneficial to explain how it works, for those who have not previously participated or for those who may have forgotten some of it:

1) classroom instructors and I show up, before 8am, to open the facility, then set up the classroom,

2) range instructors and "tidy-up" person show up, at 10am, for a light breakfast of coffee/tea and donuts/muffins, with range instructors to sight-in the firearms and familiarize themselves with the procedures we'll use (all staff members are encouraged to bring as many iron-sighted, bolt-action, .22 cal rifles as each can; we never seem to have enough, for differently sized/shaped/aged youngsters/adults; students CANNOT bring their personal rifles),

3) scorer shows up, at 10am, for a light breakfast, to distribute ammo, for the range instructors, then to set up the targets, writing each student's name thereon, plus distribution of shooting glasses and earplugs, then collection of shooting glasses and distribution of course completion certificates, when the students are done (they get to keep the ear plugs),

4) the students will show up, at 8:45am, to sign in, then spend the morning, in the classroom,

5) pizza and soft drink lunch, for staff and students, at noon or thereabouts,

6) one-on-one range time, for the students, with the range instructors, in relays of 13, with a max of 3 relays, after lunch, then

7) students can leave, when done, if an adult or, i
f a minor, when accompanied by an adult.

We've set the date. It's Saturday, September 17th. Attached are:

1) the announcement, with driving directions,
2) registration form, for adults and
3) registration form, for minors.

This class is limited, to 39 students and we enroll on a first-come, first-served basis. We've always sold out early and, since we haven't been able to do this, for 2 years running, because of COVID, we expect to fill even earlier than usual. So, if you or anyone you know is interested, please get the forms completed, then sent to us, ASAP.

Feel free to download, then forward, the forms, to anyone you think will benefit from this program.

WOW!!! Normally, we start to fill slowly, then have a rush, a month or so after announcing the date. This year, it's only been 7 days, with a 3 day holiday between and, already, we've registered 49% of the class' max. If you have anyone, who you know would benefit from this course, get that paperwork in ASAP.
