GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. --

An agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation was wounded Tuesday afternoon as the agent and a recently paroled man struggled over a gun.

The parolee, 28-year-old Kenneth Muse, was killed during the struggle.

The incident happened at an apartment complex near Hurley Medical Center in Flint.

The Genesee County Safe Streets Task Force came to the apartment on Vincent Street to serve Muse a warrant for his role in a 2004 murder and robbery in which a gang member was killed.

A struggle ensued on the second floor of apartment 15 with an FBI agent. Shots were fired.

Flint police said the FBI agent was struck by a round in the foot. Muse was killed.

An investigation is ongoing and authorities have not said how many shots were fired during the struggle or who pulled the weapon's trigger.

Muse was paroled in September after serving five years for a felon in possession of a firearm conviction.

Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell held a news conference Wednesday morning and said too many criminals are being let out onto the streets.

The sheriff is not pleased with a recent Gov. Jennifer Granholm decision to release thousands of prison inmates early.

"They have to be careful who they release back to the streets," said Pickell. "We are told constantly they aren't releasing violent people, but this was a violent guy."

Authorities said the agent who was wounded in the altercation is in good condition at a local hospital.
