I'd find the other end, which is probably plugged into a transformer, and disconnect it. Even though it's low voltage it's still a live wire.

Edit: Actually, if you had a separate control system it probably plugged directly into that and was powered off that. Are you getting rid of that as well? If so then the wire will be dead.

If you are going to bury an abandoned wire, the best practice is to first verify that the wires are dead, then nut ALL of the wires together shorting everything. That way, nobody can make it live in the future.

I would locate the transformer and disconnect the whole system, but it's low voltage so you should be good to go one that's done.
Test w/ a voltmeter, if dead, tape and put in wall
