DIY magnetic "Hide a gun" bracket

I was looking online at a couple of those magnetic gun mounting brackets going for around $30 http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ZAA105-1.html target=

and i came across some sites with examples of some DIY styles. For about $8, i put together one that i will put into use this week. I used an old paint stirrer, two packets of magnets from Lowes, some hot melt glue, and black vinyl tape. I will mount it under my wooden bed frame, and another behind my night table.
(The first few photos were taken with my cell phone camera.) Can anyone advise if prolonged contact with a magnet can have any negative effects on the gun?

Shrink wrap works better in the long run than tape, more abrason reistant.
The adhesive on the tape also starts to come undone after about a year.

I use em' in the garage to hold screw-drivers, hammers, ect.
From the 'Interwebzzz':

In the gun community there seems to be opposing viewpoints on whether or not the gun will become magnetized and possibly induce failure. I have no personal experience on the topic, but I don't think it would be out of the realm of possibility for some parts to become magnetized and collect bits of lead and other metallic dust we are used to cleaning out of our dirty pistols. The idea of that doesn't really thrill me, but I'd have to try it out for myself to see if it actually is an issue.

Interesting reading in the comments below the article.
Lead is not ferrous so there's no chance of the magnet collecting lead dust.
If you are living in an environment where there is a lot of iron dust in the air, you should consider moving!
Other than that, there is little chance of collecting much ferrous dust just from contact with a magnet.
I would be more concerned if you used steel casings though so I would advise to only use brass.

In a survival situation though, if the slide got magnetized, you could try and float it and it would point north. (that was a joke for those of you who don't know me!)

i wanted to keep the layer as thin as possible so as to not decrease the power of the magnetic pull. i didn't want too much of a chance of the gun sliding off and falling.
Joe, it holds a 16oz hammer w/o any problems. That mouse gun should hold fine.
