Leupold Scopes

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Leupold is issuing a customer alert to purchasers of products, particularly via Internet sales, in regards to bogus Leupold products that are apparently being illegally imported from the People's Republic of China. These products bear many of the marks and trade dress of current Leupold & Stevens riflescopes making them very hard to distinguish externally from authentic Leupold products.

In recent months, counterfeited Leupold Mark 4® riflescopes have begun to arrive with increasing regularity at the firm's Beaverton, Oregon, headquarters for service. These products are not manufactured by Leupold and are not covered by the Leupold Full Lifetime Guarantee.

Leupold employs serial number tracking for all its riflescopes, so if a customer finds a scope that is suspect, he or she can simply write down the serial number and call 1-800-LEUPOLD to confirm if it is indeed authentic.

In general, most of the scopes appear to originate from Hong Kong (People's Republic of China), and have "Leupold Mark 4" laser engraved on the bottom of the turret in a silver etch, while the black ring on the objective is etched in white and does not include the name "Leupold." An authentic Mark 4 riflescope will always be engraved black on black and have the name "Leupold" engraved on the black ring.

Are the copies also covered in lead paint or other poisenous materials used to save the "manufacterer" money?

I thought Leupold scopes were manufactured in the U.S.A.? Have they shifted their manufacturing facility to China?
everything is counterfeited nowadays, even ketchup.
Pay a little extra and buy from reputable dealer. I don't know how people can buy $1000 scopes from ebay and similar sites. Anything over 100 bucks I don't use Ebay. There are people selling counterfeit "leather" holsters let alone expensive scopes.
Hello all

As the post before me I am also new to long range shooting I a purchased a Remington 700 xcr tactical with 26" fluted barrel .308 and a leupold mark 4 6.5-20x50mm LR/T M1 scope. Heard good things on badger USMC Dmr 30mm rings with a badger 1 piece rail for Remington short action 45 Moa . Big question is what height for rings .886, 1.031 or , 1.125.also if they say right handed do they mean the hand on the trigger. Sorry said I was a novice. Appreciate any insight. Thank you . Please comment on weapon and scope selection
Its likely made in the same factory as the "real" Leupold.
Doesn't Leupold have a gold ring on all products at the objective ring? Picture from OP is missing that.

All Leupold scopes are made here.
Year old dead thread.

But, no, not all. Most, yes .
I have a photo somewhere I took in Beijing of a fleamarket stand selling every type of rifle scope, Eotech, Aimpoint etc. there were about 100 on display. All of them were of course knockoffs.
This has been going on for years. Probably the same company that makes high end scopes for many U.S. based companies.
Anyone who buys expensive stuff like scopes and whatnot from fleabag and the like get what they deserve. They're helping countries like china destroy America from within.
I returned 2 high dollar Leupold scopes, because they were defective. Definitely the real deal, not a knock-off. The magnification dial was so tight in cold weather, you needed to carry a channel lock pliers when hunting. The optics were beautiful, crystal clear, but the dial was so tight, it was ridiculous.
