Need some help picking up a solid ak platform that is NY compliant. From where specifically. All help is greatly appreciated!

Shopping around may be hit or miss, and yea , You will pay top dollar. Is used OK?
Go Henderson Defense and ship to a FFl, I think M1lk did that, and he paid much less for his Sgl21 than I did for my Arsenal Sgl24.
I would assume that you will likely run into WASRs as the biggest stocked items as far as AK platforms go.

Chestier hunting and fishing in ronkonkoma has a wasar for 500 or you can get a saiga brand new and from the Russian factory if you only want the ak platform you can even convert it if want the Original ak feel

the research is amongst the best parts!!! remember you need to be in line with the nys awb so watch to have your muzzle brake pinned and welded, no adjustable stock on post bans etc. also unlike most of our ar friends you will need to keep an eye on 922r compliance as many of the good ak's are brought in and made us compliant.

truly depends on how much you have to play with. a $400 wasr is mid to low quality depending on the individual piece but you're in the game and can enjoy it to the max. i'm a fan of the polish tantals myself. the egyptian maadi's are exceptional. the arsenals are crazy nice but pricey for an ak. i personally love lancasters though many people don't. the saiga is made in mikhail's factory if you don't mind the "sporting" look and aren't looking to use banana mags out of the box.

peri is definitely right to check out gus' website. you'll see so many types you can get an idea of where you want to go with your search. also invest in the guns and ammo ak issue. it's put out once a year, the new one just came out, and will give you a plethora of ak information to chew on.

good luck and welcome.

I agree!

I hear the horror stories about the customer service, but I am quite happy with mine.

there are dozens of ak's and they're not all made the same. many will like one. many will like another. i truly advise that you do your homework before spending your hard earned money.

one day when you order something, call them up. that guy usually knows everything. back in december i called regarding an order i placed, then he went on for an entire hour about long island being connected with the infamous 3rd hole norincos from labanu.

hes fun to talk to

i will have to do that! i bought some mags from him and we emailed at length back and forth all over the place. gentleman ended up responding with a missive! absolutely incredibly informative and a very nice guy to boot.

i particularly enjoyed the bill clinton / kgb whores story. 8)

You might want to hook up with a couple of guys and try some out, but like everyone said its all about how much $ you want to spend. I've never heard anything bad about the Aersonals, but they are pricy. People will bash the wasr's , I have one and its flawless and accurate for an AK. can't beat the price. Several stores in nassau are not stocking ak's because of the rice situation. Volko is excellent to do ffl transfers. I've dealt with hendersen and interarms for ak's and mags, good experience with both. Have fun.

in a nutshell

arsenals are great. own them. love them.
love my lancaster. some people don't
love the maadi. great buy. eventually would like to get one.
many love the norinco. i don't.
love the polish tantal. no one will bash this bad boy.
bulgarian ak's are usually good. hungarians are ok. romanians are iffy at best.
century and the wasr is a crapshoot. period.i value my money too much to roll the dice but that's just me.

i have handled or own or owned at one time all of the above so my comments come from experience.

Can you even buy a "NY compliant" Tantal without much fuss? Would love to get one and saw a decent price in Centerfire Systems new catalog, but a lot of the big distributors like Centerfire, CDNN, and Atlantic don't offer NY compliant versions of these (just the ole' WASR packages).

Having the same problem with a PTR-91. Really really want the GI version that CDNN and Atlantic offers but they won't weld the compensator and don't know how to proceed. Having it shipped to a gunsmith to do the compliance work? Is that even done around here anymore? Or will I have to shell out a lot more $$ than I see from these dealers to get a locally neutered version in a shop.

Polish aks do exist without the side folder. Let me check some sources.

OK thanks. I'd appreciate that.

I guess the answer I already know is that it's that much harder for us to get the ones offered at great deals by these big distributors.

For instance, I look through the CDNN catalog and realize I can't get most of those great deals. I have to settle for less at a much higher price.

In many cases it's the only the pinning and welding of a compensator that prevents the sale (as mags and stocks are quick, easy fixes). Does any gunsmith/FFL locally accept non-compliant firearms and can do the compliance work prior to picking up the transfer (just welding or silver soldering the comp)?
