according to this email with SCPD - all training taken previously will NOT count for the 18 needed - but they also have "no information on the course" - It needs to be NY DCJS certified but cant tell me what classes are certified . . . .

That is disappointing since DCJS stated in the FAQs that the licensing agency has the authority to give you credit for previously taken courses taken within the past 5 years. It even states that you can receive partial or full credit for previous courses.

Let's face it. They're pulling the same sh*t as Washington, DC. When the courts told them they can't prevent people from carrying outside their homes they came up with the 16 hour course that no one was certified to give.

Please don't pay for, or take ANY classes until this crap settles and is worked out.
Paying for classes and/or taking them is only conforming to the unconstitutional tyranny, and supporting greedy price gouging people.
My understanding is that NOBODY is "officially" set up to give this class as of today.
There is NO sense of urgency to take this class. Please, let's all wait it out together.
Let's give the courts a chance and see what wrongs they can right.

Also, even if you take the class, and you get your NYS, County approved full carry license, .....
You can't carry most places!
What is the point? You are just giving in, wasting your time and money, and providing validity to this wrongdoing!
Stop it! Stop it now!

There.
I said it.
Probably going to fall on deaf ears, but I had to try.

I don’t understand why so many people in a rush to pay and take days off work to take a $400-800 class that may or not be valid and to then apply and wait and have there personal information ones character scrutinized by a desk cop then wait for permission to carry virtual anywhere.

Because they are not thinking it through, and are allowing themselves to be manipulated into compliance by NY State unfortunately.

Btw, I spoke with the Lt. who is the commander of SCPD PLB a few days ago. Pleasant enough conversation. I personally don't think he's an "enemy". Anyway, according to him, one of our options is to keep our Sportsman license almost exactly as is, NO training required, and 5 year renewals. The one major exception is no more stopping on the way to and from the range, because, well, everywhere is a restricted/sensitive place = Class E felony. He said you would have to lock your weapon in your car unloaded/secured lockbox etc. For now anyway. The training, 3 year renewals, social media crap, is all if you want to amend to full carry. I disagreed on principle of course, but for those content with their Sportsman, I thought that was good news.

The local licensing officials are stuck between knowing what the Bruen decision dictates and what the folks in Albany have say via S51001. Bruen invalidated proper cause and proper cause restrictions. It doesn’t take a law degree from Harvard to understand this. In fact other states have changed their laws in recognition of what the Bruen decision dictates.

The current state law is still based on proper cause restrictions. There should be no need to declare a proper cause for applying for a license. Some states reference proper cause as “for all lawful purposes” but even that is a statement of proper cause. I’m a law abiding citizen applying for a pistol license. That’s it.

The authorities have the means to do a criminal and mental background check. Applying for a license should be name, contact information, criminal and mental healbackground check, period. You’re exercising your fundamental individual Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. You do not have to give up your 1st, 4th and 5th Amendment rights to exercise your 2nd Amendment rights.

The Governor has her responsibilities backwards. Her primary responsibility is NOT to protect me from criminals on the street. First of all she can’t do it. Unless we want to turn NY into a police state with officers standing on every street corner. The police are a reactionary force. They can’t be everywhere at once. You are the first responder when it comes to your self-protection. The Governor’s primary responsibility is to protect your rights to protect yourself and your family. What she has done is put a stumbling block in the way of you doing that with these new laws that violate the Constitution.

In the email it says you will have to hand in your training certificate and they will contact you at a "later date" for an interview. So basically they'll be a two plus year waiting period for the amendment after you take the course. Such B.S.

It’s pretty messed up how it takes longer to process a carry license in your own state then it does to get non resident carry. PA you walk in they take your picture does a background check and issues a license on the spot.

Yep. I just renewed my PA at the end of July. Went with a friend. 1 person in front of us and we were both in and out in 24 minutes with our PA license to carry firearms for self defense

Where did you guys go to get it processed? I thought they were hesitant to issue the non resident licenses now. I had one years ago but it lapsed.
