I have a Ruger Mark III and the .22 bore snake no longer fits down the barrel. It used to feed but now it appears the threaded area that connects to the rope may have expanded to the point where it won't. I've considered wrapping it in fishing line or perhaps gluing this area with something that might hold fabric tight. Any suggestions? THANKS
what do you put on the bore snake when cleaning? I use that CPL That cleans and lubes on that area before I let it enter the barrel seems to last fine.
I invested in the Otis kit. If you have multiple calibers like I do and I'm sure many of you do this is a good way to go. The deluxe kit has it all. Pricey but over time it is worth it. Or just buy a new bore snake.
I don't like bore snakes because that's not really cleaning. All your doing is dragging dirt through the barrel. Let's face it, how many people clean their bore snake?
I use the Otis for semi-auto rifle like 22's, everything else is cleaned with a rod.
I use snakes on occasion if I don't feel like giving it the 'works'. I'll run it through a couple times really wet to give a quick scub and losen stuff up then I'll follow up with mop or wet patches and then dry patches till they come out clean. Then another wet patch to protect the bore.
