Mix it with water (10% ballistol, 90% water) and you can use it for corrosive ammo

I am no expert, but use Ballistol any place you use oil. it is a penetrate and will work its way into the steel and therefor makes cleaning easier because it limits the build up. don't own any semi auto rifles so can't speak about gas pistons but if you oil them you can ballistol them. Been using it for 20+years never an issue but will remove inlay leafing and lettering so be careful there. Good luck, maybe ask the question on Amazon maybe get specific info on that question.
